Writing is thinking
Outsourcing the entire task of writing to LLMs will deprive us of the essential creative task of interpreting our findings and generating a deeper theoretical understanding of the world.

Choosing the right topic is extremely important.
Writing is a tool for thinking. You’re not just putting words on a page, you’re exploring ideas, expanding your understanding, connecting information, and shaping arguments about something that really matters to you.
If you’re not interested in the topic, your writing will be flat, uninspiring, and purposeless.

Here's how it works👇
Yes, that's definitely true, but from my experience it's important to have reasonable expertise in writing, and in the domain that you're writing about, before collaborating with an AI can be truly considered collaboration.
You need to be able to hold your own in the conversation for it to be an effective editing / creative partner.
@CryptidAmoeba @jordanbpeterson The idea behind that example was that it's important to use language that you fully understand and would use naturally when explaining your ideas in writing.
If a writer has a rich and full vocabulary, then that example would likely not apply :)
Using AI to write your paper for you is like microwaving a fish stick and calling yourself a chef. Sure it's quick, but it doesn't take long to realize it's still half-frozen and tastes like cardboard. Big words and a fancy tartar sauce won't fool a teacher — when have you ever used words like "juxtaposition" or "ontology"?
Writing helps you learn to construct arguments, think critically, and communicate clearly. Put in the effort to develop the skills you need to succeed later. In other words, learn a recipe or two so when you bring home a date you're not just serving up soggy fish sticks.

@ManningJul45727 Correct. We're definitely committed to keeping the thinking with the writer.
But also this isn't for an AI-assistant.
We do plan on integrating more AI features, but our philosophy is very much as you describe.
"I'll help you, but you have to do the work & thinking."
Hey @lastbestdev, we're not building an AI writing assistant (although I think that could also be a good thing if done to help someone learn to write).
Essay is a structured writing platform that helps people learn to develop their ideas by writing. It was inspired by @jordanbpeterson's writing guide.
