@tyromper I'm teaching summer school. There is a man with 3 kids, probably middle school, elementary school, and pre-k, who come to the track daily and run a mile, run sprints through the field, do some bleachers, and play around. Reminds me of you with your boys!
@FixingEducation I have to stay in the classroom for 1 more year b/c I won TIA $$ and if I leave the classroom, I lose the $$. I have to stay in public ed 6 more years to earn full retirement benefits. I'm too close to retirement to stop now! Most days, I love it.
@FixingEducation There's no accountability ANYWHERE. Blame. Lots of blame. But no accountability. Even the teachers who have poor outcomes have no consequences. They still teach and get paid the same based on years of service. Things might change if there was accountability SOMEWHERE.
@FixingEducation Like in most things, a relationship, reputation, and professionalism build the safety to be able to ask difficult questions without being labeled.
@UngerMadison@educator4ever36 My APs are never alone in a room with a kid with the door closed. They have the door open or another adult in the room. Safety for all parties.
@FixingEducation Weak administration. Boys were horsplaying during passing period while I was in the hall. I sent this picture to my AP, and those boys are in ISS today. Swift accountability!
@rastokke Agreed! But STAAR tests multiple strategies, lots of pictures, and so many objectives that we dont have time to practice any of them to mastery. Standardized tests need to be different.
@Principal_Jon 22 years teaching. Oldest went public school k-12 then UNT. 2nd went k-11, finished 12th grade homeschool in 3 months, then mechanic school. 3rd went public k-7, then private 8-9, now homeschooling the rest. 4th in private school. Do what's best for each kid! SCHOOL CHOICE!
@jeu_desprit815@FixingEducation Don't know what school you're talking about. Drop off at my school begins at 7:15 am and pick up runs until 4:30 pm, but it's a middle school. All elementary in my district offers after-school care until 5:30. Business hours. For free.
@teachthemx3 Parents dont know this either. They think we are giving all these special things to their kid. They have no idea that its basically a rubber stamp that everyone gets. It's broken.
@FixingEducation 22 years in middle school math. Years 1-14 I was very happy! Then administration changed 3 times in 4 years, and the school went to hell, so years 15-19 were pretty miserable. Moved towns and changed schools and years 20-22 have been fantastic!
@Principal_Jon Every grade level and subject has unnecessary standards. Whoever decides those things knows there needs to be enough to fill a 7-8 hour school day 10 months of the year. After all, school is free daycare.
