Brazil has entered a decisive presidential election runoff between current president Lula and far-right senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the eldest son of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Flavio represents the political faction that downplayed the pandemic, led the January 8 attacks on democratic institutions, and openly glorifies torturers from Brazil's 1964 military dictatorship. Closely aligned with Trump and far-right interests in the USA, his movement raises severe concerns regarding foreign interference and the erosion of Brazilian sovereignty.
Their agenda poses an immediate threat to our democracy, cultural sector, and fundamental human rights. They have a proven track record of dismantling the Ministry of Culture, cutting arts funding, and backing allies who are actively campaigning to abolish crucial laws protecting women against domestic violence and femicide.
The first round was decided by an extremely narrow margin with over thirty million abstentions. We urgently need your voice to help us reach more people, mobilize these missing voters, and overcome this difference to protect our future.
