@Louis_CAD @tornorbye @ColtonIdle@androidstudio @PreusslerBerlin @martinbonnin Oh don't get me wrong, I hear you and want the same thing. It just takes a lot of work to get there. The sooner we can incorporate a new platform and make it to stable, the better. It just does not take a few weeks, it takes months :(
@Louis_CAD @tornorbye @ColtonIdle@androidstudio If it helps, this is the idea:
Canary: Weekly updates, all features we are working on are enabled.
Beta: Weekly updates with fixes. Features might be missing. More stable than Canary.
Stable: ~3 major updates a year with a few fix releases. The most stable version. 4/4
@Louis_CAD @tornorbye @ColtonIdle@androidstudio There are two problems we are actively working on solving here, one is the AGP restriction issue mentioned in another tweet, and the other is the fact that builds suggest upgrades to other channels. 3/4
@javiermendonca @mreichelt@androidstudio @tornorbye Thank you!! We now have a clue and will start investigating. I filed: https://t.co/cvoao6B3fn for this, you can cc and follow along. Any other information you can add (like, what kind of change you were making or even a sample project!) would be super helpful!
@javiermendonca @mreichelt@androidstudio @tornorbye We are listening! Javier, I would love to help you and find out what the problem is. "Apply Changes" should never restart the app. What message does it show when that happens? Does it just close the app and that's it? Did you change any "Apply Changes" preferences?
@ColtonIdle @tornorbye @chethaase@romainguy Apply Changes is orthogonal to annotation processors, and for the general case it should work well. The latter comment referred to non-incremental processors where, even though Apply Changes could still work, you will have to rebuild everything on every change
In this first post on Project Marble, learn more about how the Android Studio team built Apply Changes, the successor to Instant Run.
