Being back on campus is reinvigorating. I am in a place that assumes a future: work, other people, energy with somewhere to go. That is the opposite of the ward, where the atmosphere is decline, time compressed and endless, hope treated as suspect, people getting smaller. The difference is the setting, not two versions of me. One environment propagates happiness. The other saps it. I know which one I can live in.
Who acted like I shouldn’t go back, and didn’t listen to me. The mental health system is not supposed to feel oppressive but it sure does feel that way when you lose your life to a hospitalisation. Not to mention the hell that was being inside one of those mental hospitals.
First week of uni and I feel like Yasmin in the Bratz movie. It’s very hard to feel like I fit in after 4 years out of study. I just remind myself that I’m here to get my degree this time and that being older than I was just makes it all a bit different.
Dismantle everything I had built and worked towards. So I’ve essentially spent 4 years until now out of work and education, stuck in the mental health system, which did fu*ck all to help me with my dreams and aspirations or get me back to university. In fact they were the ones
I’m actually happy today. It’s a miracle. My first day back on campus.
Yes I’m 27 and I’m returning to university. Yes I felt quite old at first. But I’m doing it.
My future will not be determined by the pain and suffering I’ve experienced over the past 4 years.
A homeless man in London captured the attention of thousands, not for begging, but for the way he rocks his dog to sleep every night. When asked why, he explained that life hadn’t always been this way. “When I first got him, we had an apartment,” he said softly. “Living on the street has been a hard adjustment for him. The honking, the sirens, the people, it keeps him up. So every night, I make sure he’s asleep before I close my eyes.” #dog #wholesome #dogs #doglover
"When people talk about the need for Black Excellence I counter with an insistence on Black mediocrity: the right for black people to be as average, flawed, compromised & mistaken as any other group of people. The right, ultimately, to be human." R.I.P. Jason Arday
you cannot study literature without also studying history, myths and legends, religions, sometimes art and music and many more topics and this is why i love it so much i think
Had a really good experience with my therapist today as well. It was really helpful to discuss how traumatising certain aspects of 2022 were for me as an individual. I won’t trauma dump on the timeline, but it’s really helpful to have someone who understands.
Had a nice day today. My care co ordinator was incredibly understanding and empathetic about the side effects I’ve been enduring on my medication.
The NHS is definitely very overstretched and I really wish I could afford private medical care, but it’s incredibly expensive.
