As a neurodivergent person, your dream life is surprisingly simple.
Not luxury.
Not hustle.
Not optimization.
Just: โข enough income to breathe
โข enough energy to enjoy being alive
โข people who understand your weirdness
โข a home that feels safe
โข a brain that isn't constantly at war with itself
That's the dream.
โWhy do you continue to work when you could be a stay at home mom/wife?โ
Because when my mom met my dad, she quit nursing school.
My dad, then relentlessly cheated on her and she had to start at square one. No degree. Small apartment. A daycare job.
She started over in her 40โs. She now works a great job, paid off her very nice house, and just finished building her dream pool. On her own.
God forbid something happens, I want to be independent. I donโt want to start over later in life. I donโt want to rely on a man. My husband is my partner, not my bank account.
My mom taught me to learn from her mistakes and I sure did.
i think autistic people are often mistaken for being argumentative and needing to be right, when in reality, it's more about needing the information to be CORRECT... because we get overwhelming anxiety when we're convinced that it isn't.
@be_like_ice Last minute cancelling (unless I also didn't wanna do it) it feels like a broken promise. However I'm queen of cancelling or just not showing up myself ๐ฌ
BREAKING: Scientists confirm ADHD brains have a unique form of object permanence.
If I canโt see it, it does not exist. Not metaphorically. Literally.
Out of sight means:
- out of mind
- out of memory
- out of emotional continuity
- possibly never existed at all
Me: โI should call my friend.โ
Also me after putting my phone down: โI hope theyโre doing wellโฆ wherever they areโฆ in the void.โ
Then the moment I see the message again:
โOH RIGHT. HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS.โ
People with autism & ADHD age late. We do things late. Our frontal lobe doesnโt develop until our mid 30s in many cases (as opposed to the neurotypical norm of age 25). We also have baby faces & childlike mannerisms for life while somehow possessing the wisdom of an ancient sage.
How bad will it bite me in the ass if I don't do any work today ๐ญ I miss working retail bc at least it was like I just had a couple things to do, all entirely dictated by someone else. I don't do well with self-direction
I'm such a stickler for kids going to bed early, even though it's always a struggle in my house. Last night at 7PM my sister asked my niece if she needed a nap ๐ญ if the 4 year old doesn't go to bed!!!! ๐
Who is Social Security made for? Every day I talk to people who worked their whole life for a $20k/year benefit, about to lose their homes because they can't pay the taxes. Yeah, I get it, gotta invest in retirement but that's not even enough for some people.
