This photo, taken circa 1959, shows the construction of the new Science Hall. It replaced Norton Science Hall, which was completed in 1907. In the early 1970s, the Science Hall’s two sections were named for physics professor S. Winston Cram and biology professor John Breukelman.

In 1996, ESU alum and director of University Relations Cora Hedstrom was one of 13 Emporians chosen to carry the Olympic torch on its journey from Los Angeles to the Summer Games in Atlanta. Her run on May 17 began at the Didde Catholic Campus Center and ended at Plumb Hall.

In summer 1966, Japanese violinist and educator Shinichi Suzuki came to campus to conduct a workshop in his method of teaching violin and other instruments to young children. In this yearbook photo, Suzuki provides a demonstration with students Paula Moore and Ellen Ciurczak.
