Burkina Faso has reportedly pulled in about $18 billion from gold since Captain Ibrahim Traoré took power in 2022.
Gold dominates the country’s mineral exports and is central to the economy.
Output was about 60.8 tonnes in 2024, then jumped to around 94 tonnes in 2025, according to Burkina Faso’s mining authorities and the World Bank.
Traoré’s government has also rewritten the rules to give the state a bigger hand in mining.
The 2024 code lifted the government’s automatic stake in mining companies from 10% to 15% and raised some royalties.
In 2025 alone, the sector reportedly brought the state more than 900 billion CFA francs, roughly $1.55 billion, with gold production at about 94 tonnes.
@RAbdiAnalyst In preparation for the assignment they read up often from outdated documents & update them to include "expert" speculations for the desired effect. That's career for many of them. No accountability. Busy defining us &the rest. These represent the worst case of agenda recycling.
@TiborPNagyJr Interesting that the current conflict started the same day/week 'Biden-era' "sanctions targeting Eritrea's ruling party and the military" was lifted!
@martinplaut You are in London &must be receiving such info from a "reliable" source. Everyone knows "reliable" sources aren't necessarily reliable or disinterested. Distance disadvantages you, as well as language/culture. Some of your recent posts were patently false &you had to remove them.
