Ray Dalio on what a hedge fund actually is (and why most people get it wrong):
Ray Dalio is asked to define a hedge fund, and his answer is surprisingly honest.
"I don't know what a hedge fund is. I really don't know it when I say that it's like a... it would be like using a term, a mutual fund."
His point is that the label tells you almost nothing. A hedge fund is a structure, not a strategy. Just like some mutual fund managers are value investors and others buy bonds or stocks, hedge fund managers do wildly different things under one umbrella.
"Basically, though, it allows you to invest without much in the way of restrictions traditional ways. I can sell short as well as go long if something's gonna go... if I think something will go down, I can sell short. I can go into any market. I can go into stocks or bonds or commodities or gold or anywhere that I want to go within my agreement with my client."
For Dalio, that freedom is the whole point. It is a vehicle that lets him approach any market in the world based on what he sees, not based on what a fund's mandate forces him into.
He goes on to explain why he's drawn to global macro investing specifically:
"I like the fact that people are not making subjective evaluations of how good I'm doing, that I can measure myself down to the, you know, two decimal points, right? What's my performance? It's objectively evaluated."
But perhaps the most revealing part is what he says about cycles. Most professionals in most industries ride booms and suffer downturns. Dalio sees his setup differently:
"I like the fact that I can go long or short so that there's no such thing as good times or bad times, and most people have an industry or a profession and they have cycles to them. You know, in my case I don't have any cycles; it's... I have no excuses. Just, it's all on me."
No excuses. No blaming the market environment. The ability to profit in any direction means the results belong entirely to the investor.
He also shares the surprisingly humble origin of Bridgewater Associates. After graduating from Harvard Business School in 1973, during the oil shock, Dalio and a few friends around the world formed an association to bridge commodities between markets, selling things like soybean oil from the United States to Iran.
"This was one of those things that we did kind of a part-time, but it actually didn't end up being... I think we did probably two transactions. It was more of an idea than a reality, and I had the name."
When he later left his job at Shearson, the company was already incorporated and waiting.
One of the most influential investment firms in history started as a side project that barely did two deals.

It is wild how fast the tables can turn. Passing by the Nigerian Embassy on Francis Baard Street, you realize the diplomatic wheels aren't just turning slowly, they are completely stuck.
People have traveled from all over South Africa only to end up living on the pavement. The real kicker? Watching flashy "business tycoons" and "investors" who used to look down on everyone else, now patiently waiting in line for a free plate of food. Life has a funny way of leveling the playing field. 😆 🤣 😂 😹

About ENERGY AND SEX
For those who take sex very lightly, I leave this information here.
Chakras regenerate every 7 years, so if you've been with a person even once, their energy will stay with you for 7 years. That is if you don't clean there properly.
When you have sex with someone, a whole energetic process begins.
Mainly the root chakras (Muladhara) of both, come together and from this intimacy the auras merge, merge to create a great auric energy around the two.
Through separation, it leaves an energetic and karmic imprint. The more relationships you have with a person, the deeper the connection.
That's why sometimes you remember so much about your ex or who you became intimate with and you change your vibration and create energetic links that bring them together where they then continue to transmit energy on a subtle level.
In every relationship, some of the other person's energy is acquired. If you have relationships with people who are mainly dense, unconscious, devoid of light and love, unstable, then you acquire the same thing ...
You change to a paradigm where nothing makes you happy even though you have many reasons to be. If the other person did something that marked their karma, you acquire it and it can attract painful experiences.
On the contrary, if you are in a relationship with someone who is aware, full of light, full of love and who keeps their energy clean, a wonderful exchange of positive energy is generated for both people. Both grow in love and awareness.
The energy of love and sexuality is so great and magical that it vibrates so high that you reach an expanded state of consciousness. That energy also remains in you and me as new light codes.
If you sleep with a person who currently already has a partner, you consequently acquire the energy of that person and the partner (and the partner's partners).
There are no culprits, only unconscious people and consequences. You are your own boss, you can change when you decide.
Why do we attract people into our lives whose relationships with us are empty, painful and dense?
- First by vibration: we attract what we vibrate.
- Second for learning: the other person is a reflection of you, he will show you your shadows so you can recognize them and work on them.
- The third due to internal conflicts: You did not learn to love, you did not learn to Value ...
Consequently, we relate to people of the same vibratory level. You can even become attached ("falling in love") with someone like this, with the inability to love and value yourself until you end up using yourself. For it vibrationally perceives your need for Love, but only reflects your relationship with yourself. Love yourself and you will love others and others will love you.
This is not an invitation to not have sex, on the contrary, you must make LOVE as often as you want! But before that, vibrate up, to attract a person with whom you can be stable and help you grow and not tear down the evolutionary work.
People who have VIBRATION know how to choose LOVE and LIGHT.
Never sleep with someone you don't want to be with, don't do it out of revenge or because you have to..."

Nicolai Tangen has a rule he calls the "inertia analysis":
take your portfolio from january 1st. calculate what it would've returned if you never touched it again. then compare it to what you actually did all year.
"so often you actually have detracted from your performance by the things you've done."
every system you build is fighting the same urge. often the edge isn't the next trade. it's the trades you talk yourself out of.
Rami Chuene Blacklisted For Fighting For Actors' Rights But Remains Unshaken
Despite being blacklisted from television shows for fighting for the rights of her colleagues, Rami Chuene says she does not care about that.
The actress, who became famous for her role as Gracious "TGom" Mabuza on The Queen, spoke on DJ Fresh's morning show, Kaya Breakfast.
Rami shared that she once spent three years sitting at home without being hired for any shows because producers complained that she spoke out too much.
It will be remembered that Rami became a target on The Queen when she showed solidarity with her colleague, Vatiswa Ndara.
In 2020, Rami abruptly exited The Queen after her character was suddenly killed off.
Despite this, Rami stated that she does not regret it at all and will continue to fight for the rights of other actors if they are being exploited.
She added that she is very proud of the decision she made.
Currently, Rami plays the role of Vera on The Four of Us, a drama series broadcast on https://t.co/5iBbYvJ0us that filled the slot left open by the cancellation of Scandal!.
On this show, Rami stars alongside Dumisani Dlamini (who played Chester in Yizo Yizo 2 and Crocodile in Sarafina), Thembinkosi Mthembu (who played Bonga in Adulting and Dingiswayo in Shaka Ilembe), and Sdumo Mtshali (who played Jonasi Gomora in The Polygamist and Donga in My Brother's Keeper).
Even though Rami is now 51 years old, she says she constantly has to dodge younger men who want to be her "Ben 10s" (toy boys).
She mentioned that sometimes it is not easy to identify younger men because they grow up so fast nowadays.
She even gave an example using Bafana Bafana player Mbekezeli Mbokazi, whom she says is the same age as her second-to-last child.
"You only realise it when the boy says, 'I started watching you on TV when I was still in Grade 1.'"
A Stanford mathematician who spent 10 years as a professional magician just described the market in one sentence:
"I've spent my life on two tricks: making a rigged deck look random, and making a random one look rigged. The market is the first trick, and almost nobody catches it."
That's Persi Diaconis. He has a free lecture that asks one question: does anything actually happen at random? The answer is: far less than you think.
The market is his first trick in the wild. It looks like pure chance. Buried inside is a faint rig, a 50.75% tilt no eye can see. Your gut reads a losing week as a broken system and a hot streak as skill. Wrong both times. The tilt is invisible to human intuition, which is exactly why funds hand the decision to the math.
None of it is hidden. Diaconis has taught it for decades. The probability goes back to 1713. The lecture is free.
Here's the trap: you feel every win and every loss, but you cannot feel the average. And the average is the only thing that pays. It takes thousands of trades for a 51% edge to separate from luck, and almost everyone quits long before then.
The math is free. The patience to trust it past your own eyes is the edge.
