This piece is as maddening and fantastic as everyone says (no surprise, @Tyler_A_Harper has a gift for storytelling), but the best part might be this sense-making bit at the end; the hollowing of journalism and the arts flows at least in part from this same dynamic
Reviewer #1, basically: "This is great scholarship and a real pleasure to read. Here are some minor changes."
Reviewer #2, basically: "Does the author know how to tie their own shoes? I'd only use this document as toilet paper."
I'm posting this late, but here's (part of) the conversation I had with Doug Lain last month for @SublationMedia on how the Left can reimagine an emancipatory politics of abortion in a post-Roe world.

Shoutout to Kathleen Higgins, I emailed her when I was applying to grad school and she was like "You sound great but there's nothing at UT Austin for you anymore"
@rosswolfe I've translated into English (but am still seeking a publisher) the majority of Schmidt's essays from the late 1960s-early 70s. It's clear he was the better student of Horkheimer and Adorno and would have preserved the memory of Critical Theory better.
I am, of course, wholly unqualified to write film criticism, yet I found myself, quite against my usual inclinations, compelled to set down a few thoughts on Chevalier (2022), a wonderful but neglected film. Out with @caesuramag now.

I'm pleased to bring to an English readership Walter Held's 1939 essay "Critical theory without political practice? An evaluation of the Journal for Social Research", translated & introduced with my colleague Lukas Hedderich & submitted to the Platypus Review @platypus1917

What the actual fuck, lmao!!!! This is crazy. I knew Napoleon III tried to present himself as pro-worker, I didn't know he was seen as a socialistic reformer who wanted to give every worker private property and turn his agricultural colony into the prototype of the Kibbutz.
