Holy shit. It’s happening.
Well enjoy it Hoosiers… because you’ll be paying for it.
You’ll be paying to the tune of $1-$2 BILLION dollars on a stadium that will also be exempted from paying property taxes while you’re paying through the nose on your property taxes that go up every single year.
And you’ll be giving this money to a multi-billion billion dollar Sportsketball team and their lavishly wealthy owners. Good job. 🙄
Our priorities are all screwed up in this state.
@shahn6365 If this will be such a great investment then why do we still owe $460 Million on Lucas Oil Stadium that was built in 2008?
Can’t pay off the stadium we already have.

Millions per year? Oh boy. 🙄 They’d need to pay $5.5 million dollars *per month* just to pay back the $2 Billion dollars of associated stadium construction and infrastructure.
If this will be such a great deal then why do we still owe $460 million dollars on Lucas Oil Stadium that was built in 2008?
I mean the Democrat Mayor of Shannon surely wanted it, the Republican General Assembly surely wanted it… but at a time where Hoosiers are paying Biden-era gas prices and the effects of inflation turn up the heat on their finances I don’t know anyone who was saying “Gee, another billion dollar sports stadium would really improve my day-to-day life!”
Then tell me oh wise one. If Lucas Oil and the Hoosier Dome were such a great deal, why do we owe $450 million on Lucas Oil (after 20 years) and were we paying on the Hoosier Dome for 12 years after its demolition?
@notseriousknown Giving $1-$2 Billion dollars of tax revenue to a sports team and their wealthy owners *is* a Government handout and subsidy. How do you not get that?
@upepsneedalife@tokenizer98572 Who wants to take franchises away from the owners to “give” it to the people? Me? Are you kidding?
Clearly you haven’t listened to the show. I’m *against* Commie wealth redistribution— I thought Republicans were too. But then they commit to redistributing wealth to billionaires.
@realhankMC@EthanHatcher I’m amazed that people continue to say things like this given all the studies that have disproved it:

I'm glad you enjoyed Indianapolis, if you were visiting for a big game you definitely got to see the city at its best.
Somehow they always figure out how to clean up the homeless problem when there's an event coming to town with lots of visitors... but then they always come back as soon as everyone has left.
The taxes are voluntary? So I can opt-out of that food and beverage tax next time I eat out downtown?
Because I’ve never been to Lucas Oil Stadium to watch a Colts game before. Seems kind of unfair I have to pay for it every time I buy a meal. But if you’re telling me it’s voluntary that means I can just opt-out at my next dinner, right?
The 2025 Budget by the General Assembly raised taxes on Hoosier by $1 Billion. Now we’re going to commit double that money to give to a multi-billion dollar sports team… and you don’t think the General Assembly will be holding out their hand asking for *more* tax money during the next budget to pay for all these giveaways? Don’t be naive.
We still haven’t paid off the Hoosier Dome, refinanced bonds tied with the Convention Center aren’t set to be paid off until 2039, we built Lucas Oil Stadium in 2008 but won’t have it paid off until 2037. Can we just pay off *one* taxpayer funded sports stadium before we give more money from working class Hoosiers to a Billionaire sports owner and his family? Maybe?
We’ll be paying for this for decades. And the food and beverage tax increases will be paid by area residents forever, just like they are right here in Marion County to fund Jim Irsay’s world-renowned guitar collection.
@EthanHatcher “Our roads are bad” is not an argument against landing a billion-dollar economic asset.
Stadium districts generate jobs, tax revenue, events, restaurants, hotels, and development.
You don’t fix infrastructure by passing on revenue-producing projects.
Are you really doing the Oliver Twist routine for a Billionaire? lol 😂
Hey good for them. I believe in the Free Market! You should totally be allowed to make as much money as you can, and keep that money without burdensome taxation. But if you’ve made all that money you certainly don’t need welfare and wealth redistribution from working class Hoosiers families tax dollars!!
Calling it a win to commit taxpayer dollars to build a stadium for a Billionaire team owner and his multi-Billion dollar team while our road infrastructure is crumbling is utterly insane and beyond irresponsible.
They’re going to give away money to a billionaire while they put up a toll road to punish the commuter going to work each day. Disgusting.
