I am a husband, a father and a small business owner employing 18 people.
What I want (and believe that the country needs):
✅ lower taxes
✅ fewer regulations
✅ more freedom and less government
✅ lower immigration
✅ more common sense
✅ more support for small businesses
I am increasingly of the opinion that @AldiUK prioritises price over every metric, particularly customer experience. Customers who need to use a till (rather than self serve) are made to feel like an inconvenience and the cashier prefers to chat to colleagues on their headset.
The staff headsets drive me insane! I don’t want to hear about “your sesh” from the night before or speculation about why “Charlie shouted at Carol on her lunch” last week. Honestly, aren’t you supposed to be working and mindful that customers can hear everything?
Governments announce minimum wage increases buts its businesses that pay for them.
I am a small business owner and we have laid off staff to pay other staff more money (NMW + Employers’ NI).
The Tories failed on immigration.
The Tories failed on the cost of living.
The Tories failed on deregulation.
The Tories failed on leaving the ECHR.
The Tories failed on economic growth.
The Tories failed on 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙢.
Until they admit it, they’ll never win again.
Eight years ago today. I voted for border control, lower immigration and for sovereignty. Those who voted Remain feel let down and those who voted Leave have been let down. Brexit was a once in a lifetime opportunity to radically change our country. It’s been squandered.
🚨 Just a reminder that although governments announce minimum wage increases they don’t pay for them. Businesses do! 🚨
Increasing minimum wage by 10% doesn’t always mean a 10% ROI for businesses but does mean potential job losses or price increases for customers.
@miriam_cates I am 33 and the father to four boys (my wife is due today with our fifth! although this one was unplanned… 😅). We’ve had to make huge sacrifices to start a family but it has been worth it but my goodness the government doesn’t make it easy.
@CharlotteCGill I am 33 and the father of four boys and we just found out we are unexpectedly expecting a fifth boy 😅 but I am getting the snip this July as we’ve definitely done our bit for the TFR. It’s a juggle and a sacrifice but it’s absolutely worth it.
#Armageddon was my favourite tour so far. Thanks to everyone who bought a ticket and to everyone who tried. You helped me break world records and raise millions for animal charities. Watch it on Netflix from December 25th. Merry Christmas.
20% VAT is criminal. We handcraft gelato from scratch. Most of our ingredients are zero rated VAT. We turn these ingredients into delicious authentic gelato. And then the government says: 20% please for Value Added Tax.
But who is adding the value?
The problem is that governments announce a minimum wage increase but businesses pay for it.
As a small business owner, we pay as much as we can but an almost 10% rise in wage doesn’t equate to that employee making us 10% more profit or them becoming 10% more productive…
CONFIRMED: The National Living Wage is set to rise to £11.44 from April 2024 and will be extended to those aged 21 and over for the first time.
This is a pay boost to millions - supporting families and communities with the cost of living.
Yesterday The Chancellor did the media rounds saying on Wednesday he will "remove barriers to business growth."
If he has listened to Hospitality, that will include reducing VAT to 12.5%.
Extending Business Rates Relief
Its not a question of growth, its a question of survival.
Running your own business is hard but the government makes it even harder.
Here are three things that would help:
✅ extend the 75% rate relief
✅ reduce employers’ NICs
✅ reduce VAT, particularly for hospitality

National living wage confirmed to rise by 10% from April - up from £10.42 to £11.44 for over 23s. A reminder that although govt announces it it is businesses who deliver it and why it is so vital other action is taken to reduce tax and costs, particularly rates
