We all have rational reasons for looking the other way - "I have a family," "I can't afford to risk my job," "It would damage my career," and so on. These are all good, rational reasons to look away from injustice ... and so injustice persists.
Incredible to get to spend some time with award winning journalist @MarianaVZ from the @NatGeoTV program “Trafficked”. Mariana is in South Africa to film an insert for the next season of her award winning television documentary series.
On this day, 2 years ago, I faced the Zondo Commission and public to reveal what I'd seen & heard relating to state capture. It ruined my life & career. I'm proud to have served my country, even though I have now been betrayed. I hope we will see accountability 🇿🇦
Pravin Gordhan keeps on disappointing. His comments that De Ruyter should have stayed away from “politics” when he disclosed massive corruption at Eskom, is revealing. Since when has corruption become part of politics Pravin?
And I used to think he was one of the good guys.
@wayneduv@OUTASA@Tourism_gov_za@PresidencyZA A government agency hounding a whistleblower ... it is despicable. Anything the president says about whistleblowers at SONA will be hot air unless he condemns this
South Africa lost out on competent and ethical service providers because our overwhelming corruption culture breeds, rewards and feeds on dishonest mediocrity.
@bonglez I have always been so positive about SA. But the depth and breadth of corruption is so overwhelming I can’t help but despair. What future leaders are we building is this is our norm?
Today is Africa Anti-Corruption Day – which raises the question of how Africa is faring in this regard given that it has been 19 years since the African Union adopted the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combatting Corruption in Maputo, Mozambique in 2003. #ethics
Joburg City calls cops on volunteers building wheelchair 🦽 access to The Wilds. @delaneyartist and a group of volunteers have turned this beautiful park into a city oasis after it was a no-go zone for years. It is a lung for all. @mphophalatse1 @MMCRonaldHarris @GJMo
One of the biggest and most significant changes we all can make in our country (and maybe the world) is to embrace win-win approaches to mediating conflict at all levels of society - this will bring political, economic and social benefits all round.
Corruption and incompetence are destroying our country. The sad part is that all this is happening with our permission. We are ‘free’ and living in a democratic country after all.
@CityPowerJhb Trying to register online to report on-going power outage since Wed. evening 9 March @ 86 15th Street Parkhurst. But, after hours, still waiting for the OTP - so can't register to log the fault. Is the system not working?
It is also of great importance that efforts are made to restore institutional checks on power, the lack of which has been made patently clear through the hearings at the Zondo commission
It is time to establish oversight bodies such as a dedicated anti-corruption agency. #CPI2021
