@umatoreslop@umatorena07 I've asked my disabled friends about it before and they also don't care, so your experience seems pretty unique to me, but clearly nothing I say will change your mind so I'm just gonna stop arguing.
@umatoreslop@umatorena07 They do in fact changeeaning when they are used in a different way by the majority of people who use it. Take goon for example, it used to mean a low ranking criminal, now it means to masturbate. The ones perpetuating the stereotype are the ones who refuse to see that it isn't-
@umatoreslop@umatorena07 Considering I've never seen it be used and have anything to do with disabled people, yeah, most of the time it is not to make fun of disabled people. Like growing up I didn't know it had anything to do with disabled people because it was never used in a way that involved them.
@ethsta68105709@umatorena07 the word hasn't changed meaning, it means stupid for being disabled, words dont change definition because you feel like it, dont explain what a slur means to the person impacted by said slur
you can just stay stupid, why do you want to say a slur so badly?
@umatoreslop@umatorena07 Notice how I'm leaving disabled people out? That's because they are irrelevant in this context. Words change meaning and I find that in the modern usage of the word it means stupid, not stupid for being disabled.
@umatoreslop@umatorena07 The term retardation means to slow down, mental retardation means to be mentally slow, AKA stupid. I don't think it's ableist when using it's literal meaning of mentally slow. It IS ableist to call someone a retard for being disabled, though I have yet to actually see that.
