I'm extremely happy to announce that after 3+ years of working on a decompilation project for Paper Mario, we have reached 100% completion for the US version of the game. Every compiled function has been matched!

The PAL version of Paper Mario has now been fully decompiled!
Thanks to AltoXorg for getting us across the finish line. We're also almost done fully matching the JP version, and then all that's left is the recently discovered Lodgenet version!
Ethan Roseman and Mark Street join the podcast with Joe Nash to talk about the Nintendo 64 game decompilation scene.

@lucas_s21122 sorry to hear that :( curiosity can be a really strong impulse, but yeah in situations like these it's best to just cut contact / unfollow imo
I'm happy to announce that the iQue Player version of Paper Mario has now also been fully decompiled! Thanks to @MarijnvdWerf and AltoXorg for their major contributions toward this effort. Onto the PAL, JP, and Lodgenet versions!
@pagabuc@gynvael Here's one of the aforementioned lists. However, I can't vouch for its completeness, accuracy, or that the projects on here are matching decomps. Definitely a good starting point though if you're trying to find some. https://t.co/gzABPvW2wa
@pagabuc@gynvael Thanks for the shoutout! There's tons of "matching" decomp projects, as we call them, in the game decompilation scene. There's a few community-curated lists floating around, but you can find most of them by just searching "decomp" on github. Most n64/gc/wii/psx/ps2 projects are
@gigazine Due to the nature of the project, the output is exactly the same as the input, so there's nothing visually new to show. So I wanted to add a fun part to the video :)
@gigazine これはありがとうございました!カピバラがすきです。たのしいだけ. Sorry for my bad Japanese. The reason for "Paper Capio" is just a fun joke, because many people were expecting a huge announcement for a PC port or new mod or something like that.
@pcgamer Us announcing this achievement -we're a huge team of dozens of people, by the way- is not being brave in the face of Nintendo. It's a celebration of their game and our journey to reverse engineer it. I don't appreciate the way you've framed this story.

While I have people paying attention, I made a retrospective of the project that contains a fun surprise as well. Feel free to check it out: https://t.co/psb1Py8ayW
And if Paper Mario / N64 Decomp stuff interests you, I plan to talk about my projects more here in the future.

There's a lot more to do on this project, including documentation, other version support, more asset support, etc, but this is a huge achievement that wouldn't be possible without the insane work from so many talented people. Congrats to everyone!
@DarkWolf80s There's not a PC port of the game and there is a lot of work still remaining before one will be possible, so you can't do that yet. Please see our website (https://t.co/ovBeM2jIgB) for more details.
