Had to mentally prepare to go out every morning to walk through the noise and stink. My Oxford St year was the most exhausting of my 4 years in London by far traffic-wise.

@danielmgmoylan @carlafrancome Early 90s, I lived in a flat overlooking Oxford St. It was absolutely rammed with bumper to bumper traffic. The congestion and the associated noise and fumes were incessant. This July, 1st time back in 30 years, I cycled down Oxford St and was astonished at the transformation.

The weirdness is in the pronunciation of past & present tenses of “to lead” v the metal “lead” while pronunciation of present and past tenses of “to read” and the colour “red” lead in another direction 😉

@fietsprofessor @ianwalker Ah, is this what the car drivers are trying to tell me when they beep aggressively as I sidle past them to get to the cycle box at the traffic lights? I always take care to not touch the car, so no scraping of bodywork. It’s always flummoxed me🤷‍♀️
