My personal gripe with the state of education is how young people can't recite poetry from memory anymore.
Also, kids don't know Bible verses like they used to.
There's a generation of adults who can quote paragraphs of prose for fun, and break into poetry when they're bored
The kindest thing literature does is remind you that your peculiar little feelings have always existed. Someone, in some century, was equally confused by love, bored by society, tired of performing, and hungry for meaning.
