These two giant tortoises have been fighting each other for over 120 years. According to the zoo, one tortoise stole the other’s food 120 years ago, and from that day on they became enemies. There hasn’t been a single day where they haven’t fought for a while
The one year difference in sea surface temperatures in the Eastern Pacific is out of this world.
From a developing La Niña in 2025 to a budding Super El Niño in 2026 and all-time record warm ocean temperatures in the Eastern Pacific.
El Niño development is firing on all cylinders.
Sea temperatures in the central equatorial Pacific have now broken records for five days in a row.
A locally record-breaking westerly wind burst is currently causing yet more warming there.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been successfully discharged from Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi.
He underwent left knee replacement surgery on 8 June and was discharged this morning (12 June).
Doctors confirm he is stable and expected to make a full recovery.Wishing His Holiness a swift and complete recovery.

Region Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperatures are in record territory, approaching 3 standard deviations above the 1982-2011 mean, an anomaly that has never happened before in recorded history.
The Climate 8-ball says: "four!"
A record-breaking 3.4˚C El Niño is predicted by the new NMME, which is a collection of six different models.
This forecast is 0.3˚C higher than last month, as the underlying models have captured warming that has already occurred and new heat-shifting westerly wind bursts.
Recently released ECMWF data shows real potential for the strongest El Niño on record this year.
Observations show that tropical Pacific seas are warming quickly while a locally record-breaking westerly wind burst is expected in mid-June.
That supports this high-end forecast.

This is Historic📈🔥
Sea Surface Temperatures in the Key #ElNino Monitoring Region is at Highest Ever Level at this Time of the Year🌡️
Look at that Brown Line just Take Off like Anything you have Ever Observed in the History😱
Crazy Times Ahead🥵
The big question is whether global warming is behind the recent spate of strong El Niños? Climate change is certainly making big El Niño impacts worse - eg more severe drought and rainfall.
Today is World Ocean Day and our oceans are being bombarded by all kinds of threats like pollution, over-fishing, acidification, etc…
But as a meteorologist, I’ll discuss the rapid warming!
We often focus on air temperatures. But the real story is in the oceans.
More than 90% of the excess heat trapped by greenhouse gases is retained in the ocean.
Each year a new assessment is released, and in 2025 the world’s oceans gained an astounding 23 zettajoules (ZJ) of heat.
In relatable terms that’s equivalent to:
🌊 37 years of humanity’s current annual energy consumption
🌊 About 380 million Hiroshima-sized atomic bombs worth of energy
🌊 More than 200 times the world’s annual electricity generation
And that’s just one year!
Why does this matter?
Warmer oceans can fuel marine heatwaves, coral bleaching and death, sea level rise through thermal expansion, contribute to bigger land heatwaves, and provide more energy for heavy rainfall and tropical cyclones. Ocean warming also stresses marine ecosystems that support fisheries, biodiversity, and coastal economies around the world.
The ocean has shielded us from much greater atmospheric warming by absorbing the vast majority of Earth’s excess heat. But that protection comes with growing consequences for ocean health.
On this World Ocean Day, it’s worth remembering that the ocean is not just responding to climate change, it’s bearing the brunt! We must protect our oceans.

Tumbleweeds start out as tiny seedlings; by summer the plant has a round shape. They grow flowers and fruits. By fall they dry and detach from their roots, so they spread their seeds.
