Day 1 of Andy Burnham as Prime Minister and he is still refusing to call the killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza what it is: a genocide.
Shabana Mahmood enforced the Palestine Action ban, oversaw the unprecedented sentencing of direct action protestors as terrorists and the arrests of 3000+ people for holding signs.
She did that to protect the Israeli weapons industry.
Their position on Gaza hasn't changed.
Despite his hopeful speech outside Number 10, having a Cabinet full of genocide deniers doesn’t give me much confidence in Andy Burnham.
I doubt much will fundamentally change.. just the optics.
How can we hope he has a serious plan for ending "the terrible suffering of people in Gaza" when he can't even bring himself to name Israel as the genocidal aggressor causing the suffering?
We need concrete action:a full arms embargo & an end to trade with illegal settlements.
Israeli ministers have just announced plans for new illegal settlements - three in Gaza and dozens more across the occupied West Bank. This is beyond reprehensible, and the international community must finally confront Israel with the full weight of international law.
At a minimum, our government must ban trade with illegal settlements. Beyond that, we need real economic sanctions, as those imposed so far have changed nothing.
From my speech last week:
Two years ago today, the world’s top court ruled that Israel’s occupation of Palestine is illegal - and Governments must act to end it!
With over 80 MPs and Lords, I've called on the Foreign Secretary to introduce sanctions on Israel to meet our legal and moral obligations.
During his speech to the Palestine solidarity march in London today, Jeremy Corbyn had a message for Andy Burnham. 💪
If Burnham really wants to prove he’s any better than Starmer, he must listen to the hundreds of thousands of us who want to see a new approach to Israel.
"My peers reject me just because I support genocide" is not a story of religious persecution, is not a story of victimhood, is not interesting, and does not belong in a news publication.
🚨🔴Bound and tortured Palestinian hostages
Israel's National Security Minister Ben Gvir:
“Do you see them? This is how they are now, but one thing remains to be done and that is to execute them”
This is what the US, UK and Europe support:
“Palestine doesn’t exist in history,”
Meanwhile Jewish girl Anne Frank in 1944
“Margot wants to become a nurse later on, and then to go to Palestine to work with babies.”
Argentina have been given the green light by the White House FIFA task force to display their Falklands banner again if they win the World Cup on Sunday 🚨
The head of the task force Andrew Giuliani believes the Argentina players are allowed to express their opinions.
There's literally a FIFA rule that specifies immediate disqualification for anyone displaying banners that make territorial claims over another country, at any official Fifa event...
