Deeply disturbed by the news coming from across the LoC. The killing of more than a dozen protesting civilians and police personnel is extremely sad. The Government there should know better than to use force to handle public grievance and demands in this manner.
When people take to the streets to express their concerns, it is a signal that they seek to be heard. It is the responsibility of those in authority to listen, engage and peacefully resolve the matter, rather than allow it to escalate into violence, arbitrary arrests and loss of life.
Hope and pray that better sense prevails and the matter is handled with maturity while addressing the concerns of the people.
If a hostile agency was to take down another country, here is what the agenda items would look like:
1. Centralize power structures under 1 individual, preferably a military general.
2. Rig elections and install a small pack of extractive elite that serves only self interest.
3. Suppress politics, activism, and media.
4. Inflict substantial economic pain on the people so they either leave or give up.
5. Overdose people on lies and delusions of greatness and global relevance.
Once you are able to pull 1, which is the hardest part, rest 2,3,4 and 5 will follow organically.
As Asim Munir, Pakistan’s military chief, seeks to project strength abroad, militant violence in his country is the worst it has been in a decade https://t.co/5k7T80NIdG
What makes Imran Khan extraordinary is not his wins but his ability to win when winning feels impossible and all the hope is gone.
- Won the 1992 World Cup with a ragtag team that nobody, including the team itself, believed had any chance of winning. His sheer belief and will made it possible.
- Built a free cancer hospital for the poorest in society when everyone said it was a crazy idea and the model won’t work. Decades later it has expanded into other cities treating millions of cancer patients every year.
- Defied every critic and launched a political movement for justice that became Pakistan’s largest political party breaking the monopoly of two military backed political dynasties. He played clean in the dirt, and still won.
- Now at 73, in prison, fighting the final round for his people against monsters that don’t know the concept of sovereignty and freedom, and refuse to decolonize the country.
There is a clear pattern in his story. When there is no hope left and all the odds are stacked against him, that’s when he wins, and wins big!
By the end of it, this will be one of greatest story ever told.
Preliminary competitive exams in India and Pakistan are increasingly becoming a joke; instead of testing the conceptual clarity of candidates, they merely serve as a defenestration strategy by stuffing questions that further encourage rote learning.
The best use of the human mind is to connect ideas, critique power, observe social absurdities, articulate uncomfortable truths elegantly, and distill emotions into language.
The worst use is blind conformity.
You lose the moral argument of being a victim when you beat, maim, and jail peaceful activists; abduct, torture, and kill intellectuals; and rig elections to deny genuine representation.
A problem can never itself be the solution.
