Just got off the phone with my college roommate.
His daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in January.
He has insurance. Good insurance. The kind you feel safe having.
7 months later:
Savings: wiped out. 401k: cashed early. Penalties and all. House: refinanced to cover the gaps insurance decided weren’t their problem.
He told me he’s not the same person anymore.
Said watching your child fight for her life while simultaneously fighting an insurance company over coverage codes does something to you that doesn’t go away.
They did everything right.
Two incomes. No debt. Responsible their whole lives.
One diagnosis undid all of it in 7 months.
And somewhere a health insurance CEO is getting a $30 million bonus this quarter.
I don’t know how people defend this system with a straight face.
I really don’t.
The Israeli ambassador protested the publication of this clip on social media platforms and asked some companies to delete it entirely. Let's make it go viral around the world
Mrs Sarah Wilkinson @swilkinsonbc is a 63 year old journalist that has been documenting the Gaza genocide from early on.
The UK Govt is charging her with terrorism crimes for simply posting the news out of Gaza, in an effort to silence her.
Please RT this - thank you.
"To walk safely in Gaza, stay away from cars because they might be targeted, and avoid buildings because they could be bombed. Don’t head west toward the sea because gunboats may open fire. Don’t move too far north, east, or south either, those are yellow areas [occupied by the Israeli military], meaning certain death. Don’t look up at the sky, there are quadcopters watching. Don’t dig into the ground, they might think you’re digging tunnels or preparing an attack.
So what’s left? Where are we supposed to go?" - Israa Ar-Ramly, Palestinian journalist in Gaza.
There is no rise in anti-Semitism. There is a rise in the number of people who are very angry at what Israel is doing. Your inability to separate the two is equally problematic.
This was a military style demolition of an entire civilization so they could take the land.
If the world allows it to happen, it's a dangerous precedent for humanity on this planet & basically green lights whoever has power to do this whenever they want.
The US has seized $5.49 billion of Venezuela’s oil revenue in 2026, then offers just $150 million in earthquake aid while the UN estimates $6.7 billion in losses. It’s not relief, it’s extortion. At the same time, US has $30 billion of frozen assets while people are under rubble.
The US and EU are sitting on over $30 billion of Venezuela’s own frozen assets while its people are buried under rubble. Sending aid is not enough. Lift every sanction now. Those same sanctions have for years blocked the heavy equipment needed to dig people out.
3 judges with the International Criminal Court filed a lawsuit in a US federal court against Trump and his administration, challenging the sanctions against them and calling it a "financial death penalty."
The judges bringing the lawsuit are:
- Kimberly Prost (Canada)
- Solomy Balungi Bossa (Uganda)
- Reine Adelaide Sophie Alapini-Gansou (Benin)
Trump placed sanctions on the judges over their judicial decisions regarding investigations into war crimes by Israel and the US.
The judges argue that the sanctions are extrajudicial measures meant to punish and coerce them. They say the restrictions cut them off from banking, online platforms, travel booking, and sometimes health insurance.
This should be much bigger news.
This report is extremely important and I’m glad the UN unreleased it, but let’s acknowledge that Palestinian journalists reported all of these horrific stories when they happened more than two years ago.
My family and I are exposed to all sorts of threats, restrictions and hateful rethoric.
Yet we would say and do everything we have said and done against the genocide, its ideologues and profiteers, again and again.
Forever proud to stand on the side of Justice.
How to Confront a Fascist?
Bertrand Russell’s powerful and dignified refusal to debate Sir Oswald Mosley, Britain’s most prominent fascist leader.
…
Dear Sir Oswald,
Thank you for your letters and for your enclosures. I have given some thought to our recent correspondence. It is always difficult to decide on how to respond to people whose ethos is so alien and, in fact, repellent to one’s own. It is not that I take exception to the general points made by you but that every ounce of my energy has been devoted to an active opposition to cruel bigotry, compulsive violence, and the sadistic persecution which has characterised the philosophy and practice of fascism.
I feel obliged to say that the emotional universes we inhabit are so distinct, and in deepest ways opposed, that nothing fruitful or sincere could ever emerge from association between us.
I should like you to understand the intensity of this conviction on my part. It is not out of any attempt to be rude that I say this but because of all that I value in human experience and human achievement.
Yours sincerely,
Bertrand Russell
“What she did…was to make me think why capitalism is not only efficient and practical, but also moral” - Alan Greenspan, speaking about his guru Ayn Rand in 1974.
It's worth understanding the role that this partnership played in unleashing the savageries of the modern market.
When Greenspan was still working in the corporate sector, Rand’s ideas about the “utopia of greed” infused him with a powerful sense of mission: apparently, making money wasn’t just good for him - it was good for society as a whole.
As for those who got trampled? Rand helped with that too: “Parasites who persistently avoid either purpose or reason perish as they should,” Greenspan wrote.
This mindset served him well as Fed Chair, where he supported shock therapy in Russia (72 million impoverished) and in East Asia after the 1997 economic crisis (24 million pushed into unemployment). Not to mention attacks on welfare and trade unions in the U.S....
JD Vance, with his tight concentric circles of "love," is just the latest manifestation of this worldview.
