庭有枇杷树,吾妻死之年所手植也,今已亭亭如盖矣。
In the courtyard a loquat stands,
Planted by hand the year my wife died—
Now tall and graceful, it expands
Its crown, a parasol opened wide.
@Altanar85@JiaweiShen2568 In 1995, French President Jacques Chirac formally acknowledged that Vichy France itself had actively participated in the persecution of Jews, and that responsibility for this could not be entirely shifted onto the Nazi occupiers.
Thalidomide was introduced in 1957 by a German pharmaceutical company. Promoted as exceptionally safe, it was widely prescribed to pregnant women to relieve morning sickness. Tragically, it resulted in severe limb deformities—and numerous deaths—in over 10,000 infants worldwide. In the United States, FDA official Frances Kelsey steadfastly withheld approval due to insufficient safety data, largely sparing the nation from the tragedy. Decades later, the drug found a second life: approved in 1998 to treat complications of leprosy, and in 2006 for multiple myeloma. History is indeed far more full of twists and turns than one might imagine.
Unfortunately, you fail to realize that most East and Southeast Asian countries place great emphasis on national narratives, while the West is becoming more diverse and placing less emphasis on such narratives. This also explains why people in France can freely insult Joan of Arc.
