Recently, the European Commission announced that the EU is advancing the cargo information system (ICS2) to help customs catch smugglers, fraudsters and criminal activity.

Case in point: Dutch customs seized nearly 7.9 million untaxed cigarettes, preventing over €3m in lost tax revenue.

But this alone won't beat the black market. Enforcement and proportionate regulation must go hand in hand.

Last week, @Le_Cnct was appointed as Trusted Flagger under the #DSA. On this occasion, it talks about the industry circumventing regulations, but the reality is that, according to the @Fraunhofer Institute, nearly half of the EU vape market is sold through illegal or unregulated channels, by actors who comply with no rules at all.

As a responsible producer committed to product stewardship, we are ready to support @Le_Cnct and @ARCOM_France in shutting down the black market operators who are actually undermining consumer protection.

France’s total ban on nicotine pouches goes against the EU #SingleMarket.

By ignoring the formal objections of 7 Member States, Paris has chosen unilateral prohibition over European integration.

Problematic fragmentation doesn't eliminate demand. It just hand-delivers the market to criminal networks and robs adult smokers of less harmful alternatives. 40% of the cigarette market in France, is already illicit.

The European Commission should not stand by while internal market rules are overlooked. 🇪🇺
