Looked this up, and sadly its true.

Prof Nnaji attributed this to the discontinuation of a partial risk guarantee mechanism he introduced that had helped de-risk projects and attract global capital.

The last major power plant I saw when I looked was the Azura-Edo, which closed in 2015.

How do you not fund a major power plant since 2015 and expect reliable power?

Am I missing something? Why can’t they leave the grid now that they already have 141 MW? After all, the national grid supplies about 230 MW to EEDC for all five South-East states—so isn’t 141 MW enough to power all of Abia?

Geometric Power Company currently supplies 141 megawatts of electricity to Aba, with plans well underway to boost generation capacity to 266 megawatts through the addition of 125 megawatts.

Once this expansion is completed, Abia State can afford to exit the national grid.

Currently Nigeria generates 3900-4300 Mw of electricity, meanwhile a company in the South South part of Akwa Ibom is building a massive 7000 Mw for internal use.
