Wildfires in Newfoundland and Labrador have rapidly worsened. Canadian Armed Forces members and Canadian Coast Guard teams are hard at work to deliver critical supplies and firefighting support, with further support arriving today to assist local first responders.

I just spoke with Premier Hogan about the escalating situation, and reiterated that the federal government stands ready to provide whatever additional support is needed. To all those affected; we are here for you and will take every measure necessary to keep Canadians safe.

As wildfires persist in communities across Canada, I convened the Incident Response Group to discuss efforts involving all orders of government to fight the fires and support evacuations. 

Most recently, Canadian Armed Forces personnel have been mobilized to assist with the evacuation of Sandy Lake First Nation in Ontario.

The federal government stands ready to provide additional support wherever needed. Our ongoing thanks to all first responders and volunteers on the ground fighting to protect our communities.
