We are concerned by reports of hired goons taking to the streets to attempt to quell today's peaceful demonstrations through criminal activity. We condemn the mushrooming of politically radicalized groups to interfere with the exercise and enjoyment of civic duties and rights by the young people of Kenya.

The history of our country is tainted by mobilisation and polarisation of the citizenry along political, socioethnic, and economic lines. We note with concern the apparent acquiescence of the @NPSOfficial_KE who allowed the perpetrators of goonism and violence to reign fear and terror among innocent Kenyans. We demand that the police uphold the rule of law in accordance with their mandate and avoid complicity in the draconian political mischief that has previously led our country to dark times. We cannot jeopardise our national cohesion for political expediency and survival.

The resolve of Kenyans has been consistent; true, sustainable change. The sustained contempt for the views and wishes of Kenyans through such antics is counterproductive to our national unity, which the government ought to protect. The efforts of rebuilding our nation require a whole-nation approach, and the recent divisive proclamations and mobilization by the political elite do not inspire the required unity.
