@harderjm @HarmsStephen17 @CottonInc@OAcotton@NCottonCouncil I agree totally. Cotton is losing market share to synthetics. I'm like you, I don't understand marketing at all, but we are losing the battle. But I also know things cycle around, and when things look the worst or the best, they don't last.
@HarmsStephen17 @harderjm@CottonInc@OAcotton We would all rather sell our crops for a fair price, however, I've been around long enough to know that sometimes the market is good, but often times it is below the cost of production, hence the need for a good Farm Bill safety net. The @NCottonCouncil is who lobbies for that.
@harderjm@CottonInc@OAcotton I know exactly how you feel. I felt the same way and decided to get involved so I would know and have input. Taking a @CottonInc tour is a great way to learn. Contact Shelley Heinrich or your gin and they can get you on a tour. It's our money, and we should know how it's spent.
@CompetitiveAg I also think it is important to not just look at budgets per crop, but look at profitability for an entire farm. This will show where to apply limited water and also the benefits of crop rotation.
@CompetitiveAg Cotton definitely needs some sun. It looks ok so far, but a few more days of this and it won't. But, I have seen cotton go through some pretty tough weather and look ugly for a while and end up ok. Time will tell.
