Started the EU Foreign Affairs Ministers mtg on the war in #Ukraine & how we can help the Ukrainian people from the ferocious attacks ordered by President Putin. So much tears, so much destruction, so much suffering of millions having to leave their homes. The fighting must stop.

With @AmbsvizzIT we discussed the great need for a ceasefire in #Ukraine, the work needed for peace in #Europe & beyond, and our role as neutral countries in favour of #peace and #dialogue.

This morning I met with Dr Irina Pereverzeva of the Russian Center for Science and Culture and discussed the need for social peace between Maltese, Russians and Ukrainians living together on these islands.

This morning I met representatives of the Ukrainian community in Malta to organize with them humanitarian aid and how to facilitate the reunification of families.

We agreed with the financial sanctions against oligarchs friends of President Putin and that certain Russian banks are cut off from the SWIFT system. We have also agreed to close our airspace to Russian aircrafts.

In a virtual meeting held tonight, as #EU Foreign Ministers we discussed ways to help Ukrainian people in the fierce war they are suffering from the military forces of the Russian Federation. As a neutral country, we will not help with weapons but with medicines.

Foreign Affairs Council meeting to decide the sanctions against the leaders of the Russian Federation responsible for the military invasion of #Ukraine and how #EU will help politically, economically and in a humanitarian manner the Ukrainian people.
