Sagittarius Risings: You churn out silly short stories as party tricks, when your friends are hanging out and beg “read us something you wrote!” …And you love it. The adrenaline of hanging up your 9-5 clerical job at night, and unwinding with loved ones, while you expose a small sliver of something personal and vulnerable - to you. You knew as a child you always wanted to be as many things as possible, and I think in some facets you’ve always tried to be the best at everything. However, because of trying to be everything you ended up in a grey space or an array of nothing i.e. not investing in the things that get your adrenaline going. Always feeling like your goals were slightly out of reach. Always telling yourself it’s better to work on art as a “side project” because you need to sustain yourself financially. So you fell into the need to do what’s responsible. Make something out of yourself in a way that helps you to pay the bills and put food on the table. You go through the motions of life, like you’re in a simulation. But occasionally there are moments when you and your friends have had some pizza and a couple of beers - and everyone’s eyes seem to glaze over and wander to you - in the curious way people do, when they know true talent is in the room with them. They’ll say something like “Read us your latest short story!” Or “Sing us that song you wrote in college” ..and not by coincidence you become everyone’s main attraction for the night. Eventually when the buzz wears off, and people shuffle about looking for their keys to get home - you sit with those slivers of moments long after they’ve passed, wishing you had made your art the main event. Telling yourself your time has long passed. Right now you’re nineteen, but you say it again when you’re twenty-six, and again when you’re thirty-four. Slowly, time lapses into a mirage of all the excuses you’ve told yourself. But when you were ten if someone said “Would it be so silly, to go after your dreams, even if you failed?” You would have said “No, I think it’s not silly at all… But probably the bravest thing any of us could do.”
