The global HIV response is a UN success: infections down 61%, deaths down 70%, millions of lives saved.
Yet at the High‑Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS, I warned that progress is stalling. Funding is shrinking, prevention is being scaled back, and stigma is rising.
The end of AIDS is within reach. We cannot let it slip from our hands.

Confirmed Ebola cases in the outbreak in eastern Congo have reached 1,003, including 254 deaths, officials said, and tracing those who've been in contact with patients remains a major challenge. https://t.co/MSiY58q944
The #DRC has now recorded more than 1,000 confirmed #Ebola cases since the outbreak was declared, highlighting the scale of the challenge and the urgency of sustaining the response.
With partners, we're supporting the government-led response: more than 2,000 samples are being tested daily, public health awareness is being expanded, and over 7,000 contacts have been identified. Grateful to the government for making Ebola treatment free and providing free health care for other diseases in Ituri Province.
But significant challenges remain. We continue to support the government to further enhance testing and treatment capacity, community engagement, contact follow-up, and train more health workers.
With continued solidarity, strong leadership and commitment from communities, health workers, authorities and partners, we can end this outbreak.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, authorities say the number of confirmed Ebola cases is now more than 1,000, with at least 254 deaths.
The virus has now spread to a third displacement camp in the east of the country, killing an 18-month-old girl.
Health officials say about 100 people have recovered since the outbreak was declared last month.
But they add that contact tracing remains a problem, and that the peak of the outbreak is still to come.

🚨Ebola outbreak in eastern Congo has now surpassed 1,000 confirmed cases, with 254 deaths.
The rare Bundibugyo strain has no vaccine or treatment.
Contact tracing is only at 55%, and authorities have been unable to trace more than 35,000 people who came into contact with infected individuals.
The response is being severely hampered by rebel violence and large-scale displacement in the region.
Officials fear the true scale of the outbreak is significantly larger.
