PayPal is the biggest missed opportunity in all of tech- it should be a trillion-dollar company, not $50B.
They have a global, two-sided network of consumers and merchants linked to their banks and cards.
If they didn’t fumble we wouldn’t be entering card numbers online.
my basic view of venture capital as a social malady is that the asset class is an access/network game that’s disguised as an investing game as the time to feedback would mentally wreck you
and now it’s very quickly becoming a trading game, which will cause everyone to insane
genuinely disgusting the number of VCs sitting on maybe 1x, mostly 0.75x non-mark-to-market, 2021 books spending today tweeting dismissively about one of the most interesting runs in recent asset mgmt history.
try playing in the big leagues buddy, i'm sure you could do it.
Model + harness. We have barely begun to understand the best ways to do harness engineering. A huge amount of untapped potential even without models getting better (but models are getting better)
It's 2026 and Google Meet still doesn't have a desktop app + Zoom hasn't changed a single feature besides adding AI transcription in 10 years.
Someone building something better?
In theory, yes.
In practice, no. The number of clever emails I get that actually lead to partnerships or contracts is much higher value than charging for access.
If you can't manage your email automatically, you're a moron. Hire an assistant and log off.
Easy money for us 🫡
Wait... has anyone made an email platform where the receiver can choose their price to get an email delivered to them? Holy cow that would print money.
Every email you send to the address gets a custom autoresponse, "Hey this is Clint. Due to email overwhelm, I've decided to make it cost $1 to guarantee I open and look at your email if you're not someone I've emailed with previously. This message indicates it's your first message, so click here to send me a dollar and it will go straight to my inbox where I'll see it very quickly. If not, it goes into a folder I glance at maaaybe once a month or so, and I probably won't read it. Thanks!"
Instantly would cut 99% of the noise out of your email and create a passive income stream at the same time. Someone build this!
Jason Bateman says he packed a duffel bag of cash to quit Hollywood and flee the country. Then a role he’d been rejected for years earlier came back around and saved his entire career
Bateman: “I was literally very, very close to liquidating what little cash I had, putting it in a duffel bag, going down to the Bradley terminal at LAX… finding a city that looked interesting, and just unplugging and going there, plugging in and starting over…”
Host: “What kept you from doing that?”
Bateman: “An audition for something I ended up getting. And I was also shadowing the great Jimmy Burrows, the television director. Instead of having all the sitcom experience I had be a detriment, a hurdle, a barrier to hiring me. I wanted to turn that into a positive: start directing, try to be the next Jimmy Burrows”
“He was kind enough to let me shadow him and signed me up with his agent, Bob Broder. I directed a few episodes of some sitcoms, and it was great”
“I was feeling like an adult, feeling like I was using what I’d learned. And then Arrested Development happened”
“When I read that script, there’s no way they’re going to see me for this. They’re trying to do the exact opposite of what I’m known for. And then, Mitch Hurwitz, the genius behind Arrested Development remembered me from an audition a few years earlier, for a pilot he didn’t cast me in”
“But he remembered that I’d done really well in that audition. So he said, ‘Yeah, I’ll see him for Arrested Development.’ I went in and just guessed right with what they were looking for… So it was a great fit for me and it came right in the nick of time”
The legacy media sat there while Trump lied about the past elections and "joked" about running again in 2028.
They did not boo.
They did not walk out.
They just sat there and ate their dinner.
The journalists in that room will be remembered as the journalists in that room.
Remain playful as your responsibilities increase. It's easy to become serious when people and results depend on you, but nearly everyone's performance improves when they proceed lightly through the world.
@jameygannon In theory, but I just finished a project fine tuning an AI astrology/tarot/oracle model; the session depth and retention are shocking.
The switch from "AI is evil" to "I think I just stumbled into divine crack of the universe" (verbatim feedback) is quicker than I wanted to see
Has anyone written about an NTSB for AI? Required disclosure of incidents, public incident database, anonymous reporting, that kind of thing
Seems like one of the best examples of systematic root-cause analysis and continually driving down error rates, asymptoting to zero
