Yes, it's an old Zen parable. And also it's a brain hack.
Can't do anything about the tigers up top or the sheer drop below, but that's no reason to miss the strawberry right in arm's reach.
Here's where I think it goes beyond pure Zen ... lots of times, in my experience, "eating the strawberry" is what makes the mind realize new ways to solve the tiger (or the drop) problem.
The monks might disagree with me, though.
