I am so thrilled to be able to share my newly published paper in Learning and Instruction exploring the impact of #abilitygrouping on children's social interaction, #friendship and #psychosocial#wellbeing in the primary classroom.
Feel free to share!

In Gothenburg, where it rains nearly 40% of the time, rain playgrounds have been designed that are more fun when it’s wet. I would 100% get behind developing rain playgrounds in Ireland. Who’s with me?! ☔️👏#singingintherain#childfriendlycities

[2/3] Ciara's research builds upon the work of @Deemcgillicuddy by examining the role of ability grouping in perpetuating educational inequality in maths. It is thought-provoking and, as with all good research, it raises some uncomfortable questions!
A must-see @ 19:00 #STER2021
I’m very pleased to share our paper on “Developmental pathways of early numerical skills during the preschool to school transition”, co-authored with @CamillaKGilmore and @DrVicSimms

Tomorrow @tcddublin will elect a female provost for the first time in its history. Best of luck to the 3 excellent candidates. A major glass ceiling is getting shattered in the morning
Teachers, do you know a student who hates maths or claims not to be a "maths person"? Join me and @MurphyBreed for a free webinar where we will explain practical ways to overcome this barrier!💪

It is #WorldBookDay and, as promised, I am sharing my top books for exploring maths concepts! Here is the first list of my top 10 books for teaching shape and space with children aged 4 - 8! I have created a digital #Shelfie and have included a description for parents/ teachers!
The message for #WorldBookDay is to show that “books have the unique ability both to entertain and to teach”. With that in mind I’m going to collate and share my top books for improved maths understanding! Let me know if there is a part of maths you want included. #mathschat
This is a step in the right direction, with a one-point reduction in class size, increased funding and investment in leadership 👏 The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members. I am happy that the Minister has started to take action.
As a maths person, today's date is extremely satisfying! 12.02.2021 is a palindrome day, i.e. the day's date can be read the same way backwards and forward. As a Friday activity, challenge your students to find more palindromes (words or dates) Let me know how they do!#edutwitter
Ok, that's all my tweets about #TIMSS2019 for today. Tomorrow I will look at the data surrounding early numeracy and home and school contexts so you can gain further insights into maths education and achievement in Ireland.Reach out if you have any questions! #edchatie@maths_mie
The TIMSS 2019 results come out tomorrow. TIMSS is an international assessment of student achievement in maths and science. In Ireland, 4th class pupils from 150 schools took part. I am attending the launch (virtually) & I will share insights here! #mathseducation#STEM#edchatie
As a rule of thumb maths problem-solving tasks should have a low floor, high ceiling and wide walls. What does this mean? They are easy to begin, can challenge all learners, and have multiple solution strategies. Check out the image I made to explain this. #mathschat#edchatie
Many teachers audit their libraries over the summer months. This time, along with assessing the basics, consider whether your library is as culturally responsive as it can be, and use the questionnaire below.#BlackLivesMatter#TeachingResources@PDSTie@ScoilnetPrimary@INTOnews
This is so unfortunate, especially after the success of the Dublin event! Next year @esbscienceblast will be back with a bang! Any teachers and children who still want to show off their projects, get in touch with me and I will try to arrange for a scientist to virtually chat!
@rosanne_e_L @leahvdowning @ucddublin We loved having Leah as part of our team - she showed the children that even the most creative people who don’t “love” maths in school can grow to love and use it every day! Thanks #InWithTheNew3
Saint Enda’s school exhibiting their Maths project @esbscienceblast They wanted to show their community that maths can be fun and useful! “No matter what you want to be when you’re older you’ll definitely need Maths” #esbScienceBlast@TheRDS
