“Inequality in girls’ sports isn’t just providing boys with a better field and equipment — it’s providing them with more opportunities to get better as a player, which leads to a better college and a better future.”
Might’ve been hardest I’ve ever reported out, re: navigating personal landmines.
“In gender equity debates, it’s critical to keep your eye on the ball, or at least on the key question: does the status quo generate a fair outcome for boys and girls?” https://t.co/5UhgPLbiPg
Beautiful, creative, touching, event hosted by Bedford Teachers Association. Standing room only! with many FLHS students, families & community members. Participants were honest & brave. We hope @glasr333 will have an opportunity to see the students work & attend in the future.
It's a great honor to have illustrated today's Google Doodle which celebrates stickball & traditional lacrosse!
Many folks who play the game call it the Creator's game and I wanted to make sure I could capture the healing ceremonial nature of the sport!

In honor of #hispanicheritagemonth I read the heartwarming #novel THE BAREFOOT DREAMS OF PETRA LUNA by, #author Alda P. Dobbs. The #story follows 11 year old Petra Luna, a protagonist inspired by the author’s grandmother who endured the same tragedies & blessings as Petra.

Loved recognizing @PhilBildner’s name, loved everything about it. Too bad there’s a vocal minority convincing BOE not to support the program.

The new HBO documentary KATRINA BABIES is an extraordinary triumph of storytelling. I was 17 when Katrina hit New Orleans. Our house was gone, neighborhood decimated. Hearing people, who were just kids back then, reflect on their experiences really brought me back. What a film.
They’re coming for our books. They’re coming for our rights. They’re coming for us. If you’re not actively resisting the MAGA, fascist, republican erasure of LGBTQ humans, you are complicit. There’s no neutrality. If you’re not fighting back now, then when? #LGBT#LGBTQ#FReadom
This evening, I spoke at our local school board meeting, Newburgh Enlarged City School District. I read the letter signed by 1300 children’s book authors and illustrators condemning book banning and censorship. Get to your local school board meetings. Speak out against fascism!

@timeforkids@noraraleighB @gaepol @mustlovecorvids "Consider the Octopus" is one of my favorite #books of 2022! The #authors did an incredible job writing a light-hearted, yet important read! I'll have to look into "The Prince of Nowhere!"
