Taking some game dev courses and figure the best way to improve is a weekly goal.
The Rules: must start fresh, can reuse assets, don't skimp on the polish.
Working through the https://t.co/sSp4s1wNRE Intro to Blender course so I can eventually phase out premade models in my games. I'm not too far in yet, but here's last week's coursework. Next up is a low-poly chess set. #gamedev#Blender3d
I'm going with something smaller scale this week. A basic space shooter should give me more time to tweak details and add polish after the core gameplay is done (soon). I CAN stop my missiles from piercing through multiple ships, but I like it this way for now. #gamedev#unity3d
Week 2 was not a success. I had a vague idea of what to do going in and knew that vacation days would eat into it (which they did, a lot). Week 3 will have a more focused plan and hopefully will expand on previously built core knowledge.

Been a few days. After going through some FPS tutorials, I spent time building an auto-generating elevator shaft to save time on level design. I particularly like this "glass elevator" effect I accidentally encountered.

Week 2 Day 1. This week's a bit rushed due to a holiday, so I'll lose some time on the weekend. I'm going through some Unity FPS and Play Maker tutorials. I have an idea of what I want to get done by the end of the week but am also kinda playing it by ear.

First game is up on https://t.co/6ZoDkn5t3M It's not pretty and I put it up to help me measure my growth over time.

I'll say I learned a lot this last week and am looking forward to Week 2's challenge.

Week 1 Verdict: Barely Playable. The core gameplay is there but the control is buggy and I didn't finish my polish and there are lots of unfinished ideas. But if I was already good at this then I wouldn't be doing this weekly challenge. Week 2 starts tomorrow! #gamedev#unity3d
Note to self: your triggers aren't triggering because your rigid bodies have been secretly falling through the floor. Turn off their gravity.

@GigabittenGames @IndieGameTrends I really like the concept of restoring color to a grayscale world. Maybe try giving the blocks some additional texture or shape to give them a secondary identifier and add visual distinction. This will also help ensure the game is accessible to colorblind players.
My dev schedule:
Morning, one hour Blender course on udemy
Daytime, full-time job
Lunch, one hour Unity course on udemy
Night, one-two hours working on my own week-long project
It's busy, but fulfilling :D

Week 1 Day 4, core "gameplay" done. The player can now pick up the light at A and place it at B which is the win state. Sure, it's not pretty, but NOW I can focus on ironing out the kinks and adding substance. #gamedev#unity3d
Okay, if tonight goes according to plan then I'll finish the core gameplay! Then I can spend the next three days polishing and adding gameplay. It took a while to get here, but the hope is that each week this part will get faster and my repertoire will grow broader. #gamedevs
Day 2. I've got my character moving around with mouse clicks. I struggled with the navmesh for a while before finally figuring it out. My main goal for this week is to explore the lighting settings a lot more, and as you can see there's a lot of work to do there. #GameDeveloper
