My Bro/Sis, you see that thing you’ve been waiting on God for and almost thinking it would never happen, eh? very soon, much sooner than you think, It will happen. And you will come back to this particular tweet, to say “IT HAS HAPPENED.” IN JESUS’ NAME.
You are blessed !
When I wanted to get married, I made a deliberate decision: I never took the engagement list given to me by my in-laws to my family members. I handled everything myself because I knew the kind of relationship and boundaries I wanted to establish from the beginning. I didn’t want a situation where my family would eventually start referring to my wife as “iyawo wa.”
A few years ago, we had a family function, and they requested that my wife come a day before the event after I had already contributed my share for the olópọ̀s. I said no.
I always remind my family: my wife is my wife, not “our wife.”
Setting boundaries in marriage requires a lot of responsibility from the man. You cannot expect your wife to have peace and independence in the marriage if you are constantly allowing your family to cross boundaries.
Sometimes, being the man of the house means having the courage to say NO, even when saying it may not make everyone happy.
At least some people survived. Ohh, guys, when the man pulled out this baby, I couldn’t believe it. I had thought no one was still alive. Ohhh God 😭😭😭 RIP to the dead, and wishing a quick recovery to those who were injured.
A lot of people are yet to come to terms with the fact that a toxic adult doesn’t suddenly stop being toxic because they became a parent or grew older. They become a toxic parent, a toxic grandparent, a toxic in-law, a toxic spouse and even a toxic friend. The behavior doesn’t magically disappear. In many cases, their children simply learn to tolerate it.
If you come from a toxic family, do everything you can to protect the home you’re building from the same toxicity you grew up around. You don’t have to carry every family pattern into the next generation.
