people often say psychology when really what they mean is something more akin to sociology or maybe anthropology. unfortunately all three disciplines are interesting and have easy enough entry points that lay people confuse their amateur forays with proper examples of the field
this is what I mean: psychology is a failed discipline because people like it that way. 95% want slop paperbacks on power posing and "grit", not to explore how they and others truly feel about sexual coercion. the 5% curious perverts like Aella get non-stop hate for being curious
“Uhhh you’re determining what’s academically rigorous by political metrics” No, reactionaries determine methodology to be irrelevant based on political whims. The example they fucking love is the cancelling of the AAA panel on there being two biological sexes. You cannot methodologically justify believing in the existence of two perfectly discrete categories of sex correlating exactly to your chromosomes, because the thrust of the “methodology” of counter-consensus opinions is that any cases that do not conform to your hypothesis are rejected as outliers. It’s intellectually dishonest, incurious, and academically indefensible, but you would rather cry about being suppressed by Woke Peer Review than actually offer any kind of fucking investigation or real argument to the contrary. You don’t have it in you to be a scientist and that’s okay! Move on
I think increasing the representation of non-progressive ideas in academia is a necessary (though not sufficient) condition for regaining public trust. If you disagree, fine. But most of the people melting down have no alternative theory about how to regain public confidence.
if you have ADHD, it's imperative you learn that pop psychology has lead people to pathologize every single aspect of human condition and that you should not fall for it
to people who have something to say about trans women, regardless of what it is, whether you think it’s positive or negative: dont. everyone talk less about trans women immediately
consider the fact that i want PHM to win at the oscars not because i think it’s better than its contenders in every way, but because it gave everyone hope in an increasingly hopeless world. no other film has managed to do that this year
Overall;
These "standards" are
1- white centric (piercings are often cultural to poc)
2- neurotypical centric (sensory issues excluded)
3- heteronormative (lack of queer acceptance IN THE QUEER COMMUNITY)
4- cisnormative (aint no fucking way they wont want to kill us less)
it's funny because it sounds like a child mad about having a bedtime but "parental rights" are truly a reactionary force and granting parents any kind of epistemically privileged stance on the education and rearing of children just bc they themselves have children is stupid
New Hampshire Representative Tommy Hoyt (D) sent this email to a parent last night:
"Do you know why children's results tanked during covid? Their parents were incompetent teachers. Do your children a favor, let the teachers teach, and shut up. You're clearly no professional."
remembering one time i was chatting with a transmasc and we were flirting and they asked if i was pre-op and if so how big it is bc they were, in their words, a size queen 😐 they were shocked when this made me uncomfortable and i didn’t wanna talk to them anymore
Being around AMAB people is genuinely infuriating because not only do you people not know how to describe colors, you don’t even realize that that’s a thing you should be able to do.
How do you reach adulthood with the chromatic vocabulary of a preteen girl?
