15 Key Motives Drive Human Behavior
Researchers analyzed human motivation through an evolutionary lens, identifying 15 key motives that drive behavior.
These motives fall into five broad categories: environmental, physiological, reproductive, psychological, and social.
Using network analysis of survey responses, they mapped how these motives interconnect, revealing that Status and Play are central to shaping behavior.
The study also found that motivation changes with age—young individuals prioritize Status and Play, while older adults focus on Comfort and Fear.
Gender differences also emerged, with women emphasizing Nurture and Comfort, while men were more motivated by Status and Attraction.
These findings have applications in marketing, AI, and mental health by helping tailor strategies to different motivational needs.
