Smart Contract #vulnerability #crisis for @thirdweb users...

1. Thirdweb says they have discovered a vulnerability in an open source library being used in a majority of their contracts ==> Huge impact for their users who deployed prior to 22nd of Nov. 2023

2. @OpenZeppelin was contacted by Thirdweb (the library is from OZ ?) and their analysis is that the vulnerability is coming from a wrong integration for a given pattern and not the library itself. If this is not true, they are just tightening the rope around their neck ==> OZ says thirdweb's development is unsafe

3. None is willing to share more information about the actual vulnerability ==> Either the vulnerability IS huge and need quite some time to be mitigated OR Thirdweb is waiting for their users to be migrated before they publicly share the vulnerability (if they ever do)

Hint: Thirdweb willingness to pay for the migration's gas fees probably means they feel responsible for the vulnerability... if this wasn't the case, they would probably provide the migration path and invite their users to upgrade at their own expense (similarly to how it's being done anywhere else when an outdated version needs an urgent security upgrade)

Hint 2: The fact that contracts deployed after the 22nd of Nov. are safe on thirdweb is an indicator that OZ statement is highly probable

Narrative:
The year is 2420. Earth is a very different place. Though technologically advanced and intergalactically connected, the planet has witnessed the wonders and the whims of the cosmos. A random cosmic anomaly is underway, showering the Earth with ethereal crystals, which have the power to metamorphose into any object from our world. These aren't ordinary objects – they carry with them the legacy, memories, and essence of the ancient Earth.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to gather as many of these cosmic crystals as possible. Time is of the essence. Your state-of-the-art satellite is fitted with a very rare cosmic detector that can trace these crystals, but it has power only for 6.9 days. Every moment counts as you are not alone in this quest and other explorers are also looking for the crystals.
