If the NLCS ends up Mets-Padres, which looks likely, that means not ONE of the six NL teams receiving first-round byes in the three years under this stupid format will have won a single round of the playoffs. Not a single one.

This playoff format is an absolute joke. Baseball is different from the other sports. A first-round bye doesn’t reward the top seeds, it PENALIZES them. You can’t sit around for five days without seeing live pitching and expect to have your timing.🧵

There were 15 total series played that year and only three of them (all in the wildcard or DS rounds) were won by the lower seed. And two of THOSE were won by the Astros, who were clearly a superior team to the two “higher seeds”(Twins and A’s) they beat.

@SheaHamilton Yeah, you don’t get asked to sign the anthem at the Derby or the ASG unless you have some degree of talent. I’m sure it was just a one-off bad night, although she might’ve been better served to just sing it straight instead of (like too many anthem singers) adding her own style.
