@CodyLibolt Somewhat ironically, Dragonball Z was probably the most socially acceptable anime of that time. It was an anomaly much like Halo was in videogames. At some point in the late 2000s nerdy stuff you'd get bullied for liking until then suddenly became "cool."
@CodyLibolt As you might guess by the source of the term, it was originally used in the Anime fandom as advice to not out oneself as a weeb to more normal people, in the era before anime became a socially acceptable form of entertainment.
@NewsM101 Did you even watch the video? The guy is just talking about welcoming everyone to participate in their celebration of a religious holiday. I think the algorithm might be deranging you, bro.
@A_AByron@ConceptualJames Milei abolished those institutions outright, that was his whole "afuera" thing. This is fundamentally different from capturing and wielding illegitimate power for one's own ends.
@KyleMatovcik@ericweinstein If you read the subsequent post in the thread, Eric is unambiguously saying none of those claims were true. He is mocking the QRT by posting more of these same "expert" conclusions.
@walterkirn Your point on concensus-as-"truth" reminded me of this thread from a few years ago about the postmodernist Lyotard and his concept of Legitimation by Paralogy.
https://t.co/O11JZA3hYJ
"Legitimation by paralogy" roughly means "manufacturing 'truth(iness)' through (forcing) consensus," or, in simpler language, creating social enforcement of lies that must be believed. Lyotard rightly recognized that this is a disaster (he wrongly believed everything is that).
@mblair@ConceptualJames Interesting, I had not heard of that poem before.
If we consider the "end of the century" in that poem was 1984, would that not put the "beginning of the century" at 1884?
This seems in accordance with - rather than contradictory to - James's explanation.
@canhumanslearn @ConceptualJames His point is that youth are targets of psychological warfare and current events rhyme with terrible things we have already seen. Don't let yourself be deranged into seeking vengeance and used by people who pretend to care about you but will discard you when you stop being useful.
@MikeSoRelle@FrankVanderMer4@KassyAkiva@DouglasKMurray It's not Ad Hominem: Frank is not saying your argument is wrong *because* "you['re a] brainless airhead." He's asserting that you're wrong, then insulting you.
Douglas is not appealing to authority, he is contrasting the relative credibility of himself and Dave.
@StevenKerwin@EricLDaugh While I mostly agree, an important distinction is that Jackson is a Marxist. Roberts is also a frequent disappointment, and Kavanaugh hasn't been stellar either.
@gastrooper @LawTubeSean It's gotta go through a few more levels first and then it's a miracle if the USSC picks it up at all. Optimistically, I'd guess no fewer than five years? They like to drag this stuff out forever.
@PerryMarshall@BretWeinstein The experiments were already happening on humans, with those doing them trying to hide the record of disastrous results for ideological reasons.
@biggestfan89@WhiteHouse Oh, come on. You can see in your pictures that the date range is December 2024 to January 2025. He wasn't even in office yet. Develop a modicum of discernment.
@GNRPodcast@MaxNordau@ConceptualJames To explain the joke: it's a sculpture of Churchill, who Cooper maligns in his work. Cooper would be disappointed that it's there.
@Aethelleas@zerohedge X is refusing to let me elaborate by telling me the post I just typed out is automated, but all I can say is that shocking as it may be, it does in fact work that way.
@Aethelleas@zerohedge The check is that the Executive is voted in by the People, which is why it's so important for there to be free and fair elections and an informed populace. Unfortunately Biden became the president and he absolutely has this unchecked authority as the holder of that office.
@Aethelleas@zerohedge The founders granted the President the Pardon power explicitly in the Constitution and nobody can do anything about it. Meant to be used for mercy to right past wrongs, but can (and just was) used for corrupt means too. One of the risks accepted in our system to maximize liberty.
@Aethelleas@zerohedge US Constitution Article II Section 2: "[The President] shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment."
Only applies to already-committed federal crimes, but as a plenary power it's not subject to review.
