At the N525 IPO price, a N2m investment in Dangote Refinery gets you about 3,810 shares out of roughly 124billion shares outstanding.
If the company distributes N1trn in dividends yearly, that works out to about N8.06 per share, giving a N2m investor roughly N30,700 in gross dividends.
A N2 trillion distribution works out to N16.13 per share, or about N61,400 for the investor.
But dividends are only one part of the investment case. At N525, Dangote Refinery is already being valued at about $47.8 billion. So what exactly are investors paying for, and where does the next leg of growth come from?
The prospectus points to a major expansion: refining capacity is targeted to increase from about 700kbpd to 1.4m bpd by 2029, as part of a roughly $14.3b expansion programme.
Now consider what it would take for the N525 share price to become N1,050, just a 2× return. With the current share count, that would put the company’s equity valuation at roughly N130trn or about $95.6b at the same exchange rate.
These numbers are useful for understanding what investors are actually buying into.
