Meet Nabila Ibrahim Makama: First Class Graduate Who Memorized and Rewrote the Qurโan Before University
Last year, Nabila Ibrahim Makama completed her secondary education. When her parents discussed university with her, she requested a year to first memorize the Holy Qurโan. She completed the memorization within that year.
When the conversation about university came up again, Nabila requested another year to write out the entire Qurโan. After completing this, she enrolled at Maryam Abacha American University, where she studied Information Technology.
Today, she has graduated with First Class Honours and emerged as the best-performing student in her faculty.
In recognition of her outstanding performance, the universityโs president gave her the opportunity to choose any university in America, England, or Europe to pursue her Masterโs degree.

PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES MARYAM IBRAHIM DANโ AZUMI ON WINNING KING ABDULAZIZ INTERNATIONAL QURโANIC COMPETITION
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Maryam Ibrahim Danโ Azumi, a remarkable daughter of Gombe State and a proud Nigerian, for emerging as the winner in the womenโs category at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qurโanic Competition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
A statement by the Special Adiviser to the President, Information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga commends Maryam for her exceptional performance and mastery of the Holy Qurโan at the prestigious international competition held in the holy city of Makkah.
The statement notes that she beat her competitors from 132 other countries, earning a 300,000 Saudi Riyal prize, the equivalent of N120 million.
It further adds that Maryamโs accomplishment is not only a personal triumph but also a source of national pride, as she has placed Nigeria prominently on the global stage through her mastery of the Holy Qurโan.
President Tinubu describes Maryam and her elder sister, Hajara Ibrahim Dan Azumi, who came first in a similar competition in Jordan in 2024, as inspiration to young Nigerians.
The President particularly commends their parents, teachers, mentors and all those who contributed to their development and success, recognising the sacrifices and commitment required to attain such an exceptional level of Qurโanic scholarship.
President Tinubu also appreciates the organisers and authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for providing a distinguished international platform that promotes excellence in Qurโanic memorisation, recitation, understanding and scholarship.
Maryam Ibrahim Dan Azumiโs victory in the highly competitive category covering memorisation of the entire Holy Qurโan, recitation, Tajweed and interpretation of all 60 Hizb with Tafsir is a remarkable achievement that has brought immense honour to Nigeria and further demonstrated the excellence, discipline, dedication and intellectual capacity of Nigerian youths.
โShe has made Nigeria proud. Her achievement in Makkah is a powerful testimony to what our young people can accomplish when talent is matched with discipline, faith, hard work and dedicated mentorship.
The President, on behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, congratulates Maryam on this remarkable victory. May Almighty Allah continue to guide, protect and increase her in knowledge and wisdom, and may her achievement inspire many more young Nigerians to pursue excellence.โ
He wishes Maryam continued success as she advances in her Qurโanic scholarship and in all her future endeavours. It concludes.
I have noted with grave concern the escalating wave of insecurity that has engulfed our beloved nation. Once again, Nigeria is bleeding profusely. From Zamfara, Borno, Sokoto, Katsina, and Kwara to Oyo and several other parts of the country, our citizens can no longer sleep with both eyes closed.
Banditry, kidnapping for ransom, terrorism, communal clashes, and armed robbery have tragically become daily occurrences. What is most alarming is the audacity of these criminals, who now brazenly hold live sessions on social media to taunt the authorities and terrorise the public.
This is totally unacceptable and not befitting of a sovereign nation like ours.
As someone who has served this country at various levels, including as Governor of Kano State and Minister of Defence, where we confronted and significantly reduced security challenges through decisive leadership and community engagement, I remain convinced that insecurity is not insurmountable. What we lack today is not resources, but the requisite political will and sincerity to confront this menace head-on.
The current approach has clearly failed. Despite massive budgetary allocations to the security sector, the situation continues to deteriorate rapidly. Innocent lives are being lost daily, families are displaced in their thousands, and our economy is suffocating under the heavy weight of fear and instability.
We cannot continue on this dangerous path. Nigeriaโs security architecture requires an urgent and comprehensive overhaul.
Additionally, to safeguard our socioeconomic wellbeing, the government must prioritise the provision of quality education, modern infrastructure, accessible healthcare, reliable electricity supply, and essential agricultural inputs. This approach will strengthen local food production and reduce over-reliance on imports for food security.
We must immediately prioritise the welfare and motivation of our gallant security personnel, strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance community policing, and, most crucially, tackle the root causes of this crisis; poverty, mass unemployment, and poor governance through massive investment in quality education, skills acquisition, and job creation for our teeming youth. - RMK
