i think it's time for another IOTA 2.0 development update.

As always we'll have our main focus on the IOTA 2.0 node protocol - IOTAcore.

IOTAcore will bring a decentralized permissionless and feeless DAG to the crypto space.

Let's see whats happening👀

The team is currently testing the node protocol in a pretty realisitc network environment.

They've spin up a 64 node network (32 validator nodes and 32 access nodes). So the protocol is currently in the latest test stages until well see an public testnet.

This public testnet release however comes only if the team is happy with the node protocol. This mean they don't find any crucial bugs anymore...

This should give you a pretty decent impression about where we are... But what bugs are we talking about?

Well the work on the node protocoll has changed a little in the last month. The team finds way less issues coming up.

They rarely identify new bugs and if they find new ones they usually are pretty fast in resolving them. Then we'll see a week of testing in the network environment and then one or two new bugs.

The bug is fixed in in PR#887. The PR has been approved today and will likely make it into the next IOTAcore alpha release.

There are however a few other open points that need to be adressed.

The node protocoll currently has some memory leak issues whenever it doesn't shutdown gracefully. It seems the team needs to investigate it a little more to understand where this issue comes from. See here for more details: https://t.co/qiiw4t9Hva

The team is also carrying an issue with it about the block issuance that hasn't been adressed for a month now. It's basically adressing some edge cases. Likely not super important yet but it seems like they want to fix it before they release a public testnet. See more details here: https://t.co/NiMkAwQ3IF

And then we have two more issues that are currently beeing adressed. There is the transaction orphanage issue. Its pretty well documented here: https://t.co/nZyXckEgea

And there is a "Fruit pamming on Feature network" Task. We don't have details about this but it seems like they want to implement some specific spam testcases on the network.

Beyond that there isn't much node specific left to do. The Dashboard below gives you an overview. Obviously we have some test cases, some debug tooling but nothing to important...

This basically leaves us with the question, will they release a testnet whenever the node is ready, or will they only release a testnet at a time we have a firefly wallet, a nice explorer, a EVM L2, a SDK and everything else?

But hey, they are working on it and it is pretty interesting to see how they are planning to implement things like Accounts and Delegation into the UI. Have a look 👀

So what to take from that? Well get excited for IOTAevm.

Just today serious people popped up in my DMs and told me how IOTA is going to promote IOTAevm with a big bang 💣🎆

And then after a while playing around with IOTAevm and the hype coming down after some weeks or months it's time again to play around with the IOTA 2.0 testnet.

2024 is going to be exciting 🚀
