This Women's History Month, we're naming it clearly: funding public education, teacher wages, the freedom to teach the truth, and the dignity of the profession are gender issues.
The fight for our educators is the fight for women. 📚✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

We say this with compassion and gentleness: Black Excellence alone cannot and will not free us.
Have you read our Black History Month blog yet? We hope it fuels founder Carter G. Woodson's vision of Black history. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼

As we close our reflections on 2024, we look to a year of partnerships in 2025 that will continue challenging the status quo and brokering dreams into reality for children in public education.
Our message to every elected leader in 2025: Public goods like quality public education for all are non-negotiable.
For the next 100 days—and beyond—we’ll raise our voices louder than ever to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Indigenous communities have shaped U.S. public education with advocacy, cultural preservation, and innovative teaching. From Native languages to holistic learning, their legacy enriches education for all children, driving equity for the future. 💚 💛

Hi. I don’t know quite how to say this, but the thing that happened in this conversation was so electric and holy, I honestly believe to watch/listen to it is to be altered. It’s an experience you won’t regret, but won’t come back from either. I would go door-to-door to get people to listen to it. No hyperbole, I’ve never had a more important conversation than “Death, disinformation & revival” with Lauren Barnett.
In the wake of the recent loss of her mother (whom I revere), we are invited to consider that the stakes of how we discern/commute/transmit information, may ACTUALLY be life and death. This conversation wanders onto such sacred ground...and yet is somehow, really, really funny!?
She shares from her experience of grief, honoring the legacy of her mother, while calling into question the impact of alt media on mental health and spirituality, the emotional toll of civic engagement, and the role of algorithms in creating division—particularly how they affect our elders. Along the way, we talk about her experience coming up in my youth group (better known now as Steph Curry’s youth group, ha); as well as her crucial work with @expectproject, the challenges facing public education, and the pervasive influence of misinformation and Christian nationalism.
What more could you ask from one conversation? Listen wherever you listen to podcasts or watch on the Zeitcast YouTube channel, let me know what you think (I really want to know!), and if it upends you the way that it did me-please consider sharing this. I can’t help but throw my heart out on this one, because I know that to see & hear these things, is to wake up.
And make sure to follow @expectproject!

Listening to this song while I reflect on @shamarikreid’s invocation to us @expectproject last night during our Fall School. He invites us to nurture our physical, spiritual and emotional well being. Whew. It was a precious time.

As #HispanicHeritageMonth begins, we're grateful for opportunities to help promote, inform, and improve education policy and practice.
In 2020, only 9.3% of the nation’s public school teachers identified as Hispanic or Latino, compared to 28% of students in public schools.
If you're in one of the many communities struggling to attract and retain educators that reflect the diversity of your students, we can help!
