[9/11 Memorial & Museum @Sept11Memorial]

Members of the soccer community in the New York area established the 911 New York Soccer Foundation to help families of victims. The Foundation’s fundraiser in Fall 2001 raised more than $700,000 through raffles, concessions, and auctioned items like this jersey, signed and donated to the cause by Manchester United star David Beckman.

This jersey is now part of “The World’s Game: Soccer and 9/11” at the #911Museum, which explores how soccer brought people together after 9/11.

Did you know? The Koenig Sphere, created by Fritz Koenig, originally stood at the center of Austin J. Tobin Plaza between the Twin Towers and was recovered from Ground Zero after 9/11. Today, this sculpture is permanently on view in Liberty Park.
