Rodri provides the defensive foundation and tempo control that allows the three players ahead of him to express themselves without responsibility. Pedri then operates with the same freedom he had at the 2026 World Cup where Spain won the entire tournament. Fabian Ruiz who was arguably Spain's most consistent performer across the whole tournament gets to play in his natural rhythm. Then you add Lamine Yamal on the right, Adeyemi on the left and Raphinha still capable of decisive moments and you have a squad that could genuinely compete for the Champions League in a way Barcelona have not since their 2015 treble under Luis Enrique. The last time Barcelona had a midfielder of Rodri's quality sitting in front of their creative players was Sergio Busquets and that era produced three Champions League finals and multiple La Liga titles. Vini needed the respect of a contract that reflected his true value and Madrid needed confirmation that their most electrifying player was committed to the project Mourinho is building. There is no midfielder available in world football right now who does what Rodri does. He controls tempo, breaks up attacks, dictates rhythm, arrives late into the box and wins everything in the air.

Vinicius Jr signed until 2032 at Real Madrid and the saga that dominated the entire summer is finally over. He will be 31 when that contract expires which means Madrid are securing his absolute peak years, his late prime and potentially his final chapter at the club all in one deal. That is extraordinary planning from Florentino once he finally made the decision to do whatever it took.

Arsenal made a genuine push and deserve credit for forcing Madrid's hand and getting Vini the contract he deserved, but deep down this was always going to end this way. Vini has won multiple Champions League titles at the Bernabeu, he plays alongside Mbappe in one of the most exciting attacking partnerships in European football and the project Mourinho is building around him is genuinely one of the most ambitious in world football right now. Leaving all of that for a club that has never won the Champions League in the Premier League era was never truly on the table regardless of how good the Arsenal offer looked on paper.

Vini loves Real Madrid, he wanted fair compensation relative to his teammates and his market value, and once the club matched that he committed immediately.
A six year extension at one of the biggest clubs on earth for a player at 24 years old who has already won multiple Champions Leagues is the outcome that made sense from the beginning. All the Arsenal noise, all the deletion of Instagram content, all the agent drama was leverage working exactly as leverage is supposed to work in modern football negotiations. Vini got his raise, Madrid kept their most important attacking player and the saga is over.
