When Steve Jobs died 15 years ago today, I was devastated. Later that day, I watched his narrated version of the iconic "Here's to the crazy ones" ad and actually started crying. It felt like he was reading his own obituary. I realized the ad had been about Steve all along.
When I first saw the original version as a teenager, I decided to buy my first Mac. It took me four years of saving to finally buy one. I still think it’s the best ad ever made. It never mentions a product, but it sold me on the whole company. Sort of "Inception" for geeks, planting the single idea that turns you into a lifelong customer.
So a few hours ago, when I realized what day it was, I decided to recreate it as an animated monochrome experience in the browser, with his narration.
Animation, sound design, and code by Claude Opus 5.5 (ultracode), illustrations by GPT-Image-2.5, music by ElevenLabs. The narration is Steve's original recording, with the music removed for copyright reasons.
This is a recording of it. You can find the website below 👇
In the AI era, you don’t need a small team, but more like a tiny team. Just enough people with the taste and agency to make things happen. Brooks’ Law is now 10x!
@elgeish Even if a rewrite becomes nearly free, understanding all the things it might have broken still costs a lot. If the agent can rewrite both the implementation and the definition of correct, a green test suite becomes just meaningless.
@elshayib_ Sure, I believe vision is everything at this point and it’s essentially what built means to me. For something to exist someone still has to ask for it to exist. But, I think a generation of self-prompting AIs must be coming soon to cook us all, my friend.
The full experience also lets you make your own QR code, then scratch and tear it apart to see how much damage it can survive.

I asked Claude to build an interactive explainer on how QR codes hold and repair a message.
I started from a 400-word brief and worked with Opus 5.5 on treatment and sound design. Voiceover by ElevenLabs. It renders fully in the browser on Three.js. Full experience👇
@pvncher@TheAhmadOsman Yeah, I remember packaging a prompt and praying the model wouldn't get stuck repeating the same final line for eternity. Only GPT Pro had a chance of delivering anything usable back then. We called it prompt engineering, but it was mostly prayers.
After the up to 90% price cut, Haiku 5.5 is incredible value for money, at least as an extra reviewer that costs pennies. It just caught 5 bugs in a PR already reviewed by Opus, Astra, and Greptile. Luna was literally the last front where OpenAI was still ahead of Anthropic.
Quick heads-up: when you're in regular ChatGPT, even on a Pro plan with xhigh reasoning selected, you're actually talking to GPT-5.6 Sol, not GPT-6 Astra or GPT-6.1 Sol.
In chat mode, Astra is only available as the separate GPT-6 Pro option. If you want regular GPT-6 Astra (or GPT-6.1 Sol) with selectable reasoning, that's only limited to Work mode and Codex.
@johnternus That care reached people who never met him. The "Crazy Ones" ad convinced me to save for my first Mac. For the anniversary, I recreated it as an animated monochrome browser experience with Steve's original narration.

@tim_cook The original "Here's to the Crazy Ones" ad made me save for four years to buy my first Mac. Hearing Steve narrate it after his death felt like his own obituary. I recreated it as an animated browser tribute, using his original voice.

Best viewed in landscape mode, with sound on. If you want the prompt/process, let me know.
