Excited to announce that my new book, Dirty Work, will be out on August 17. It examines the morally troubling jobs that are done in our name and the hidden class of workers who do them. You can read more about it, and pre-order a copy, here: https://t.co/tybXaS0xLL
The Trump administration sent immigrants to El Salvador. This is what happened ‘We interviewed 40 of the men who were imprisoned: They described being beaten, sexually assaulted by guards and driven to the brink of suicide.’ https://t.co/c30jSdU02J
An ICE officer who shot a US citizen in Chicago last month bragged about the incident in texts afterwards, according to court documents.
It’s just one of the latest examples of how, contrary to the Trump administration’s own narrative, the agents supposedly helping are posing a danger to residents. https://t.co/aLAmnhNmJa
Teen Vogue is getting folded into Vogue and losing most of its staff. It’s the end of one of the only publications that allowed young people to share their own stories and took them seriously as political actors.

I spent the past few months reporting a profile of @ZohranKMamdani trying to answer two questions:
1) Who is this guy?
2) How does he fit into NYC history?
Here's what I found (it's long, sorry):

Full NYT statement. "This lawsuit has no merit. It lacks any legitimate legal claims and instead is an attempt to stifle and discourage independent reporting. The New York Times will not be deterred by intimidation tactics. We will continue to pursue the facts without fear or favor and stand up for journalists’ First Amendment right to ask questions on behalf of the American people."
NYT publisher A.G. Sulzberger alluded to the prospect of a Trump suit last night at an @IRE_NICAR gala, noting the NYT spends ~10x more now on security/legal for its journalists than a decade ago and that Trump was weaponizing courts to "impose financial pressure" on journalists.
“If the free press is a watchdog, the playbook seeks to make it a lapdog. Each element in this playbook is apparent in the escalating anti-press campaign by the Trump administration.”

Giving every pregnant woman $1,500 + $500/mo after birth cut preterm births & NICU stays, saving more in healthcare costs than the program spent!
Ken Stern, the lead author of the IHRA definition of antisemitism, explains why schools like Columbia that have adopted it are fueling a form of McCarthyism from which “we’ll all suffer.” https://t.co/Ex3hwWZTkJ
“Every political movement in history, including the most bloodthirsty, has condemned political violence by its opponents. The only real test is whether you also oppose political violence by your allies. This is a test Trump has repeatedly failed.” https://t.co/92BX5fyOlt
The 1960s was far more violent. But I don't recall Democrats in Congress blaming Republicans for the murders of JFK, MLK, or RFK.
House Moment of Silence for Kirk Descends Into Partisan Strife https://t.co/X0kevc2r1h
In the last few years we've seen:
- The plot to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer
- The Storming of the Capitol and pipe bombs left at the RNC and DNC
- The break-in to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and the brutal on Paul Pelosi
- Multiple assassination attempts against Trump
- The assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and the shooting of on State Senator John Hoffman and his wife
- Luigi Mangione's assassination of Brian Thompson
- The assassination of Charlie Kirk
Political violence is contagious. It is spreading. It is not confined to one side or belief system. It should terrify us all.
The foundation of a free society is the ability to participate in it without fear of violence. Political violence is always an attack against us all. You have to be so blind not to see that.
Trump attended the US Open as a "guest of Rolex" - which just happens to be facing 39% tariffs on its watches that Trump imposed a few weeks ago. Open corruption continues.
"Even in a long line of anti-labor GOP presidents, Trump stands out. And while he may not succeed in completely destroying collective bargaining in America, he’s poised to strike terrible blows against organized labor." https://t.co/eAy3zAAFMT
