Most sports fanatics are men, men tend to want to watch other men competing because they imagine themselves in that position, it's psychological, most men don't relate to watching women's sports. So, in reality, it's up to women to support women's sports, but the catch is most women don't want to watch it. And therein lies your problem. If women's sports wants more support, they need to market and appeal more to their female viewer base.
